My work laptop is so old. Since only the Directors that get the good and new laptop, the bad ones get passes to the lower level staffs including myself. Company don't know that the ones who really work with computers and need many program to work on are the staffs, not the Director. They are just chatting around, meetings, and throwing all to us to finish the job. Anyway, we are the one who gets the crappy laptop, their used laptops, refurbished ones! I get so frustrated with this laptop. It's slowing down my work. Like to crash, so slow, got frozen, and internet likes to get cut off. Is there any way to ruin this laptop without being so obvious? The spill drink is not working, because company will blame it on us. So need another thing to ruin it such that it looks like a technical fault. Any idea?

Do you have an It department? If you don't, try to fix the problems yourself because it will make your work easier. I agree that Directors or the powers often get the best but it is assumed that they have many things to do with the laptop. Of course, ask permission first if they agree that you can do anything with the laptop. Don't tell anyone but I often use my sibling's work laptop when I get lazy replacing it with my own. I also do the updates since he's lazy. My mother got a Mac once for her office but she revert back to Windows because she got frustrated using it.

I see. Well, ask around if you could convince the powers if you can have better equipment. Start a bandwagon and perhaps, others might follow. I might be smashing that computer if I am using it.

IT can't fix it anymore. Processor is too slow. It's not even intel core duo. It's the older one. Slower than netbook. Takes 3 minutes to boot up, takes several minutes to open applications.

If you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen. In other words one should not complain that your work computer is bad, I am not doubting it is and most likely slows down your productivity and wastes a bit of time but be happy your work provides that and doesn't require you to use your own. Have you tried to clean the pc up bu using ccleaner etc?

We have IT person, and he can't say anything. Nothing can be done, unless the laptop is broken. My laptop is more than 8 years old, passing down from other higher level employees, being fixed then passing down, and continue on. So it's been passed down twice to lower level. Not only it is slow, but it is heavy! When we travel, we have to take our laptop as carry on. It is so heavy, because they are old!

Okay. However, if you do ruin it on purpose, you'll be responsible because it is company asset. it doesn't belong to you but to the company. If it deliberately broken, they might ask you to replace it. Which I don't think you will like an iota.

Hi, Same old story. It would be not proper to ruin a company equipment on purpose, some IT people would get wind of it and the cost of repair would rebound to your paycheck. Being on an IT department, we can tell every anomaly on an equipment if it is due to natural equipment failure or plain misuse or done on purpose. System analysis is the first step in repair work and along the way, something on the system report log is bound to come up, we always refer to it being a very important tool in the repair process. There's no way you can escape from that crappy thing unless you turn it over to the property custodian and buy your own unit. Companies work that way, we get the dirty work on a defective equipment while the people up there get the best in everything, salary perks and all. Is it fair? Not in the least, but that's how the system works. It is stay in or step out.

Yeah, I am kind of affraid the IT will find out, especially he knows our complaints. The upper people gets the best, like they are using it more than us. They don't even run many applications. The get the smallest, lightest, and fastest of all.

But is it still working? You should make a formal report together with a request for replacement stating a valid reason. You should be thankful that you are provided with things that you can use with your job. Personally, I bought my own laptop in order to use it in my present job. The Directors and other employees with higher positions are also being provided with. But since I am just starting, I cannot have the same privilege. But since we are also given a salary, I save part of it to buy my laptop. I even have my own printer at home and most of the time, I am using it to print reports.

True, but I'd rather get my own laptop and can work with it faster rather than using this crappy one. It drives you nuts, when the management wants report rush, and you can't do it since the laptop is frozen, and slow. It will affect your performance. Working under pressure all the time since the laptop is part of the problem. Now which one you prefer?

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, i wonder why your company admins don't take care about this? As you mentioned staffs are doing a lot of work and need a proper system for their work. It is really hard to work with an old system. Better to make a group with your co workers and tell your problem to your admin, hope you will get solution. All the best

Hello wfhchristiner I'm sorry to hear about your problem in your crappy laptop. That's totally annoying especially when you are trying to meet some deadlines. What about try to inform about your department about this problem? Because I guess destroying this crappy laptop will not solve your issue.. Hope you can make it! Thanks for sharing

I know the feeling.... i once worked at crappy company that behave similar to yours. If you can find the laptop bios version, try to find the updater on internet, update the bios, then power it down in the middle of the process. It wont turn up again unless the IT person fixed them, but probably you will end up with the same crappy laptop because i think the company won't spend money for new equipment.
