A metter of higher philosophy as the title says. I was thinking the other day, who decided that the default toilet seat position should be down? I understand that this is easier for women, but since it's us boys here as well, it's usually easier for us for the toilet seat to be up. Girls are arguiing that it is disgusting to pull it down with their hands, but it is disgusting for us to put it up everytime as well.:P I hope I am not offending anyone with the matter of my discussion, I'm just a little curious and it should be really interesting and entertaining to get some good arguements here. :p

You do know that us boys do have to go number 2 on occasion. I don't know about you, but I want the seat down when I am doing number 2. I know on a couple of occasions that I have accidentally left the seat up and then gone to do number 2 without noticing and almost sat way to deep in the toilet. I always try to put the seat down after number 1 because I don't want to sit on the toilet with the seat up when I am going for number 2. It seems to me that it is best for both gals and guys for the seat to be down as the standard position; since we guys are facing the toilet for number 1, it is easy to see that we need to raise the seat and to do that. But for gals and us guys going for number 2, the toilet is approached in the motion of turning around and sometimes in a great hurry and the seat being up may be overlooked. So that is my philosophy on the subject and I think it is more logical for the seat to have a standard position of being down.

A... a valid point. And if we talk statistics, the girls need toiletseat down for both number 1 and number 2. Boys need toiletseat down for number 2 and up for number 1. So that makes the toilet being used 75% with toilet seat down, and 25% with toilet seat up. Didn't thought about it that way before, but statistically speaking with the toilet seat down everyone's happy. That's a strong argument;)

Seperate toilets for boys and girls, could be the solution this problem.
We should argue with girls, they have so much to care about. If they pull it down, they may break their well manicured nails.I think ww3 will be fought between girls and boys over this issue.

It is a matter of great importance for humanity. An issue that has to be solved for the sake of the balance of the two genres of our world! Only then harmony will be restored on earth! ^^

Personally I would say that the default position should be that the lid is closed, because there is evidence that when the toilet is flushed, some of the contents get sprayed around the room. So after use you close the lid and flush. The next person then lifts up the lid or the lid and the seat, whatever they prefer.
Having said that, before I knew this I would go with the majority, for example when I shared a flat with two female friends we kept the seat down; when I visited my boyfriend I lifted the seat back up after use.

Oh, this was a common discussion in our home. I grew up with brothers and they were trained to keep it down. My husband rebelled and says he has as much right to expect it up.
I have decided that it is a kindness if I leave it up and it is a kindness to me if he leaves it down. For the most part I have learned to check before I sit!
