Sending you two months advance payment for working as a house cleaner even before you start doing the work, it sure sound a lot like a lousy scam in motion. Asking you to return the extra dollars after deducting your unfinish house cleaning works from your actual salary is enough to raise a red flag in you. You are quite lucky in the sense that the bank is able to uncover for you it is a counterfeit check before transfer the balance into your account with due diligence, give you ample warning. Some people are not so lucky, their banks only realized it is a counterfeit check or money order after several months had passed, by the time they are told it is a counterfeit check from banks, most of them already sent the extra dollars back to the scammer; and most of them are held responsible for the bank loss and required to pay back the bank for failing to detect the counterfeit in short period of time. Make sure you make a report and have the check along with FedEx package send to FBI or FTC for keep save in case they decide to investigate the scam. Always be careful applying job online, there are many scammers out there in cyber space.

cl is full of scams like this. we should never give any personal information over the internet unless we know who is receiving it. It's a good think you reported them to the fbi. Everyone should do that when they are scammed but they don't bother.
