Information overload, a "disease" that you should avoid when working online

Hi mylotters, When working online, it is important to keep yourself from being infected with this "disease" - INFORMATION OVERLOAD! I am not sure whether it's me or it's them (newsletter publishers). I think, I suspect "email swiping" among list builders is kind of getting out of control. Sometimes I receive emails from people that I don't know at all and the offers they make are most of the time the same as the offers made by those publishers, most of the time internet marketers, that I've subscribed. Filtering information can become a big task and waste a lot of one's time...it's a disease we definitely need to avoid when working or surfing in the internet. Have a nice day everyone!

I used to have that kind of "disease". The emails piled up inside my inbox has reached 10000. That's tons of unread promotional letters, social networking notifications and subscriptions. Cleaning up your inbox is a very tedious task. it took me 4 hours to clean up my mess. After that, I end up most of my online suscription and I made it a point to open my mail everyday for at least 10-20 minutes to check new mails. And finally, I made a separate account that will handle my business/ work related emails.

i agree too "disease" is apt for that. Everyday my inbox gets filled with many mails, i am fed up now so i am deleting and reporting as spam and doing dew mails per day. I don't know by when can i clean up.Ahh good idea to have new email. I think i have to do that too.

Hi, at first I thought I had simply subscribed to too many newsletters, then I find out that "email swiping" is one of the ways list builders do to increase the traffic to their sites. This is being taught by the internet gurus to newbies (online workers) and I am just worried that some may be doing this too many times. This is bad and if it continues, I don't think anyone will want to subscribe to anything anymore.

I agree, i too receive such mails from people whom i don't know. It takes a lot of time to clean up.Even though i didn't subscribe , so i unsubscribed from all those recently.

Sometimes even after unsubscribing, I still get the newsletters from these publishers. So I have been deleting deleting all the time, maybe opening a new email will be a good idea now. Cleaning up the email takes time, however, I still have to do it because email is very important. It enables us to communicate privately with people from all over the world.

I did suffer that when I was working online as HR Administrator. I was assigned with a lot of tasks (which could be done by 3-4 people!) but my boss doesn't feel that comfortable in choosing anybody else. I feel proud of myself when he keeps on saying that I work best when I am pressured and so he gets me pressured all the time. But my goodness! I knew so little about computers that time, that simple copy and paste I had to ask from him on how it was done! Well, he became my mentor.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I too feel that its like a 'disease ' now these days. Even if we unsubscribe spam mails still it happens to hit the mail box. Deleting / filtering becomes a time consuming job without any productivity.
