How do you feel about businesses wishing you happy birthday?

A small bookstore I go to sometimes sends a birthday card with a percent off coupon to me every year; some car dealerships remind us they exist on holidays and on birthdays. I feel a little too used, like they've gone to far in their marketing efforts. When I want a book, I'll go to the store, when I want car things, I'll go to the dealer I trust the most, with the best price. Do you think these tactics are a bit tasteless?

It's a way to make money, abusing your birthday (or any other celebration day) to make you buy something. I neglect it, post like that goes straight into the trash can.

I think it's nice. Of course they use this also as marketing, but at least it has a little bit of kindness in it, unlike spam and unwanted adverts.

Oh I love it. I am one for discounts and being thrifty and think it's nice we get little rewards off them. You don't have to use it but it's there just in case. I have just got my first Christmas card from mills and boon, I got 2 free books with it.

I think it's great that they are giving you a little something on holidays. Even if I know it is one of the most used ways to attract their clients and they think at you more like a product than a person, I like to see the nice part of this and enjoy what I receive.
