Birthday On A Holiday...

Well, this year my birthday falls on Thanksgiving... Not too happy about that to be honest. We are going to my parents house (those of you who know me and the situation know this is NOT good news, Lol), I was not planning on going there but my mother called me crying saying I was her only child that's coming and she really wants us there. YAY for me! So, of course the sucker that I am finally agreed...
Then she called my husband and guilted him into saying yes too. Wow, unbelievable
The biggest problem with this is we have family that just moved down here from another state and they are going to be there as well. My aunt HATES holidays of any kind and when she is miserable so is EVERYONE-she makes sure of that!
So, I told my mom the deal is I will go for a little while and if ANYTHING happens that I do not like I am gone like Donkey Kong!

Oh, I so hear ya! My birthday lands on Thanksgiving often enough that I totally agree.
However, going to my folks was never a chore, going to my brother's however, is a WHOLE other story...
However, he is the only family I have locally and no matter how I feel about it, it would hurt my sister if I didn't TRY to get along with him... And I don't want to hurt my sister.
Still, I've got to work on Thanksgiving so, for that reason and the fact that her family can't get there on Thursday, my brother's girlfriend is having it on Saturday.

Oh, I didn't mean date as in year. I meant day as in the day of the month! I would never ask someone else their age, that is rude. Lol.

Yeah, thank God mine only lands on it every 7 years. That is MORE than enough, LOL. What date is your birthday?
Ugh, I am So not looking forward to this day... But like I said if ANYTHING happens while I am there I am leaving quick.
I wish you the best of luck when you go on Saturday!

hi LovingMyBabies
Looks like you are going to have some dicey time... But never mind, life is always filled with unexpected things happening. But I still will be hopeful and positive nd share with you my trick - When do you plan to leave? maybe you can celebrate the birthday before the actual day and leave the actual day as the Thanksgiving only. That should allow you to enjoy/celebrate better with your family.
and I do hope all goes well this time with you... fingers crossed.
ps.: do you cut a cake on your birthday? If you do, have an extra slice of it for me.

Yeah that is what I did. Today was just Thanksgiving and tomorrow we are going to have cake and stuff... Today went okay, not great but not horrible either!
I basically just stayed to myself...And left early.
I will have cake tomorrow. I will cut you a slice! =)

It must be difficult to have 2 reasons to celebrate at the same time because you cannot really compare it with the opportunity of celebrating them both separately. This is something that many people have to contend with due to being born at Christmas or Easter etcetera, but I suppose that it would be more disappointing during very early age. Fortunately for me I was born in the middle of June so it does not conflict with any significant date.
At least it will not occur every year for you so next year you can enjoy them both separately.
I must confess that being British I was not aware of the precise date of Thanksgiving, but I have just checked and apparently it is on Thursday. Whatever the outcome I hope that you do enjoy the date and wish you a Happy Birthday in advance.

I am sorry you feel your day will be ruined, and I don't understand why your mom would invite your husband, because he is an ex, right? I wouldn't have invited him without consulting you first..
Anyways, my husband was actually born on Thanksgiving and this year his aunt's birthday falls on Thanksgiving, but unfortunately she lives in another state. My birthday was a couple weeks ago, so back when his parents were alive, they would celebrate Thanksgiving along with both my husband and my birthdays. Here is something to be thankful for, at least your birthday isn't the day before or the day after Christmas like my cousin and sister in law. Seems their birthdays get pushed on the back burner because of that.

Oh no, my husband and I are together. We have been married for 8 years. Lol. But I thought he would have said NO because he does not like being there! My mother has a talent of guilting people into doing things though... Unfortunately!
Your absolutely right! I have a friend who's birthday is on Christmas and she HATES it! I cannot blame her for that.
I just don't like Thanksgiving, I hate turkey, I hate crowds of people and I hate who's there this year!! Ugh.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. =)

Happy birthday, LMB! I hope you make the most of the situation as you already agreed to be part of the Thanksgiving party. I would plan on some sort of celebration at your house from now on so that you can say "sorry, but I have plans" to your mother.

Thank you!
I will make the best of it the best I can and if it gets too bad I will just leave! I am going to do that from now on. I told my mother as long as she is there I am NOT coming for Christmas and she can deal with it... I should not have to be stressed for her or anyone else and I am NOT letting her ruin another holiday.

Yikes, that must stink to have your birthday fall on a holiday like that. I'm sure you're a bit torn between family and wanting to do your own thing on Thanksgiving/birthday. I think it's nice you agreed to go to your parents' (even though she guilted you into going). At least you're making the effort to show up. If you're unhappy, then I think you'd have every right to leave. I hope all goes well for you!

Nov 22nd! I got it. I want to wish you a Happy Birthday! And please do not let your mom spoil your day. And it is your day. Suggestion. Plan to " fall ill all of a sudden" . Leave early , and have a romantic dinner with Hubby. forget the Turkey Day menu. Have something You like.Celebrate Thanksgiving on Friday. You are grown, you can change the rules! I'll think of you and I'll hope for the best.Happy Birthday!

Saturday will be great, why? Your Hubby Really loves you! If your family Really wanted to celebrate your birthday, they would have had your birthday on Thursday! Like I said for this year your B-day would be on Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving would be on Friday! I'm so sorry. See I am super-sensitive And I have a bad temper, a deadly combination! If the family didn't say Happy Birthday within minutes of my arrival, I would have just walked out!It says more than just yelling! But that's me. Sorry , you story made me angry. I hope you have a great time Saturday.

Thank you so much Sarah!
It took my family 30 minutes to say Happy Birthday to me today... I don't care so much anymore but it still hurts sometimes.
LOL, I should have pretended to be sick! That would have been funny!!
Tomorrow we are having cake for my birthday but I am thinking about saying I am too sick to go...LOL.
Then Saturday I am supposed to be going somewhere with my husband for my birthday, hopefully at least that will be nice...I really hope so!

Oh its just that plans always get ruined whenever my husband and I try to plan something together. I know my husband always tries to make things nice for me, I didn't mean it that way. Lol.
Yeah I felt like walking out but you know me, I always do things for everyone else instead of me.
Get this, your about to get more mad today sorry! lol. So, we were supposed to have my birthday today at 5pm but my sister called my mother and told her there is a festival down town tonight at 5pm so my mother called me and told me we are changing my birthday time to 1:30pm today instead of tonight so they can go there! Some family, huh? Again I am pushed aside for something else...No big surprise! My husband is FUMING right now about this...
Oh well, at least I know matter to some people.

Bring booze and get them all plastered... unless, of course, your relatives get mean when they drink. In that case, just bring a flask for yourself.
It won't be that bad... Really... Go in with a cheery attitude and don't let anything anyone says get you down. Just be so obnoxiously Pollyanna-ish that no one can bring you down. Make your relatives wonder if you've gone all Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I love your responses in my discussions! Lol. That is a GREAT idea, LOL!
I am going to try to make it a good day but if anything does happen it's a good thing that I can just leave when I want to. My mother can get mad if she wants to but I warned her ahead of time that I will leave if crap starts!
I will do that, I am going to act like life is peachy! It will annoy the crap out of them too!

If it wasn't your birthday, then I would understand all the family issues that you had to go through. Afterall, it is/was Thanksgiving. I think most families that gather around during the holidays experience stress like this from family.
I just wish people gave you a break. It was your birthday too.
Again belated HBD!

Good for you. You shouldn't have to withstand anything negative on a holiday and your birthday as well because some ignorant relative is miserable and makes everyone else that way. I have that here as well, but she is cooking the turkey so I have to stay for at least a little while too. I wish I could just make it myself one day and not worry but I don't know how that would happen given my situation here. I do hope your aunt doesn't do or say anything that upsets you or anything. I really dislike things when that happens, I'd rather go to a boring party than to have to go to a party where someone gets upset over that type of thing you described. I can still remember times when my mother acted like such a pathetic person on many Thanksgivings.

Yeah, I am not going to take it this time. Anything that is said wrong or anything else I am leaving. I already warned them so it won't be a surprise!
I'm sorry that your going to have a day like mine! =( That is awful...
Well, lets hope that we both have a good day OR if we can just be strong enough to leave when we need to that would be good!

Sounds like my family functions, they are all so negative and miserable you dont want to be near them. I know they are all the time, and I wouldn't be going to functions just to have a horrible time either. Why arnt the others going? She begs you to come over, but when you ask her to say babysit she wont.

Do you think you will celebrate your birthday on the weekend maybe so you can have two celebrations instead of just one. Doesnt sound like you are going to have a very fun birthday/thanksgiving. I hope that you can make the best of it and have a good time. But like you said if something goes wrong just leave.

My brother's birthday is on Christmas, yes December 25. We give him one big gift and say it is for bday and holidays. He has been ok with this so far in his life. I hope things go well for you at your mom's and that your aunt doesn't make you as miserable as she is. Gone like Donkey Kong i always did like that saying cause its funny, but i truly hope you have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving and birthday.

At least you are spending some of your day with family! This year I won't be! My siblings don't want to do it and neither do my 2 oldest neighbors! On top of this my nephew who is in the Navy is coming home on Thanksgiving! So I am alone on that day! I will be ok and will see my nephew Dan and the rest of the family on 12/14/2012. I just hope my oldest nephews realize it is time to pick up the slack and let the older people have a break! I would have it but my place is to small for the size of my family. Hopefully your Thanksgiving will go well!

Yeah, that is not always a good thing...Just saying. I only stayed for a little while. I can only handle small doses of them. They might be family but they don't act like it most of the time. For example, my sister forgot it was my birthday today. Everyone that was there...they took 30 minutes to remember it was my birthday today! Great family huh? I would rather be by myself, at least I cannot forget my own birthday!!

First of all, I have to say Happy Birthday to you (even though my wishes are a little bit late).
I too have been one of those people that has had a birthday that falls on a holiday occasionally. For me, it is the Easter holiday that has fallen on my birthday twice in my life and it will again fall on my birthday the year that I turn 40. It is kind of funny, actually, my birthday has been on Easter on my 18th and 29th birthday and then again on my 40th birthday (the important birthdays as I see it). I like my birthday falling on Easter because I know it means that I will be able to spend time with all of my family on my birthday.
