plagiarism in mylot

Philippines
November 20, 2012 11:31pm CST
some of the topics i started here in mylot were deleted because of plagiarism. Not that i intended to plagiarize someone's work but i just happen to forget/got lazy to give the source of an article or information. there are times when i just copy and paste some articles i find on the internet because i find it hard to express the item in my own words. i wonder if you encountered the same problems like me.

Oh..that's a big NO No.. Even if you don't find some words on how to modify the topic, you could have at least stated where you originally find the topic. Give credit to the real author. tsk..tsk

Taking someone else's work without credit and claiming it as your own is plagiarism. Taking someone else's work with credit when you don't have their permission to use it is copyright infringement.

Next time don't ever forget to write the source because plagiarism is a big offense and Mylot is so serious about it. Be very careful always.

I have never encountered this problem on myLot because I do not use the copy/paste facility even though it is available to me. All my posts are original and from my own ideas, so myLot should never have to find any fault with my postings on this site. I don't see the point of plagiarising from another source if the end result is getting banned and my earnings forfeited, and I get nothing at the end of the day. For me, it is much easier to let my creative juices flow than to copy/paste from another source and then trying to conceal the fact that I have plagiarised. Plagiarism DOES NOT pay!

I guess we all should be attentive when we're copying an article. I think we're all aware that if we don't include citations on something we just copied and paste, it's outright plagiarism. So getting lazy shouldn't be an excuse. I'm aware that there are some articles that's a bit difficult to express in our own words. I've encountered a few of these, and if I can't paraphrased or summarized the gist of the article, I drop it altogether and just think of another topic to post.

you are told in mylots information not to copu a whole article you may quote from an article with a sentence or two with quotes around it bu t you are not to copy the whole article even if you give references you are plagiarizing and thats illegal in the US itself besides mylots rules.

No, that's never happened to me. I read the guidelines when I joined and they ask us to link to articles instead of copying/pasting them here, so that's what I do when I want to share something I didn't write. If you've been warned by Mylot for plagiarizing others' work, you should probably go read the guidelines so you know what things aren't allowed. http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

That is a wonderful idea to link to the original work and then you don't have to worry about plagiarism! Linking is a great tool for the computer and is much easier that citing sources . Does any one remember footnotes?

My discussions are quite personal in nature so I don't need to actually go over the net to add it to my post. I tend to start my own discussions when I am feeling a bit sad. Writing at least takes my mind off from things that bothers me. I do not post any discussion if I am really not into it at that moment. I do not want to push myself to write just for the sake of having to post something.

We must follow the mylot rules and regulations. If they are deleting your posts then there must be some reason, it may be plagiarism or may be any other reason. You should be careful during discussion. Without any reason mylot can not do such things. i suggest you should see terms and conditions again and follow the rules. Then i am sure you should not face any difficulties.

Hi, I also have this experience. Sometimes I started discussions by copying from my emails, which are very interesting and which have encouraging and motivating thoughts. I wanted to share those nice thoughts with mylot friends. But I also forgot to give the link. So some of the topics i started here in mylot were deleted because of plagiarism.

Plagiarism is a big no-no. In school, if you write or give an oral presentation without citing any of where you got the information, you will flunk the paper/speech and/or the class. My older granddaughter forgot to make a citation of one of her sources and flunked the class. So she's having to take it over again.

The copy/paste facility is available here only for those who have more than 500 posts. As I can see you only have 32. How did you manage to copy/paste here? You are right - plagiarism is a grave offence here.

No, never copy or paste other articles and posted up here, that is not legal, please bear in mind. Personally, I might have some similar topic with other members here, but the content is totally different, and I express it personally, or through personal experience. So, read the guideline, and think twice before you really do it.

I don't understand why it matters that stuff you use here was 'original.' All I know is, it's most people's RIGHT to sue others who 'use' any information they 'copyright'; and myLot admin. would rather just delete it than 'get caught & either pay a fine or go to court & lose a case & pay another fine'

That has not happened to me yet. When I start a discussion, I write from what I think. I don't quote any article or portion of any article. I have one discussion which was deleted which I don't know why but I was discussing about that time when I got a 10 for my reputation. That happened a year ago.

Hi Iluvusabado, How can you copy and past anything in mylot. You don't have 500 points yet? Unless Mylot changed their rules, you cannot copy and paste until you reach 500. As for what you said, plagiarism is bad and gives you a bad reputation if you keep doing it. You won't last here long if you make a habit of it. Learn to express what you want to say in your own words like the rest of us do. If you can't do that, you might just want to read and answer posts in your own words. I don't post a discussion unless I have something of my own to say. I'm not sure if you are new or a recycled mylotter who comes back with a new name.. if you are truly new, I want to say welcome to you.
