Did you notice this with your cat?

you know most of us had to put our clocks back an hour. While I did mine and enjoyed the extra sleep, I did not think about it making a difference with my cat. So almost a month has passed, and while I think I am on a schedule with the time change, my cat is NOT. About 4:30pm now he starts whining around for his food.(he gets a small can of fancy feast) One night he was just terrorizing me and I could not figure out what he was up to. So finally it hit me while we did the time change, his system did not. I always fed him at 6:00pm but since we went back an hour I now have to feed him at 5:00pm or he will follow me everywhere getting in my face. Did anyone else notice any changes with their cats time schedules?

Well, that's why Saskatchewan doesn't participate in Daylight Savings -- the farmers didn't want to confuse the cows.

My cats definitely notice-- as do the chickens and the alpacas, but not as much the time change itself, but the light. Up here, in the summer the longest day of the year is sixteen hours, and the shortest day in winter is about 8 hours. Now that the days are getting short, the animals are getting restless earlier and earlier, wanting their food. I feed them at the same time for them--about an hour before sunset, and about 2 hours after sunrise, and it works for them. I'm not a big fan of the time change myself, as it messes up my sleep schedule and my work schedule. My cats always have dry food out, but they do like their wet food once a day-- and of course they get it. I gave up arguing with cats a long time ago.

Wow thats some thing to think about. Those poor animals. Tink would be trying to get me to feed him sooner LOL I hear you on the food. He has two different bowls of dry food and gets his can of wet promptly at 6pm which is now 5pm because of the time change.

I think some animals notice more than others-- I know my animals here in Washington notice more than my cats did in Arizona, where the day length change isn't so dramatic. I am beginning to wonder if anyone has done a study on this in the wild..I will have to start digging around and find out, now that I am curious

I don't have cats anymore as they all passed away, but when i did have them they didn't show any changes with the time at all. They just always meowed first thing in the morning to be fed all the time. Now i have 2 dogs and nothing seems different with them nor has their schedules changed. This was an interesting discussion thanks for posting. I never knew animals could have a reaction to time change.

Pets really don't change their schedule to fit with their guardian's schedule. There is no rolling back by one hour in our country so we could not experience what you have experienced.

Yes My cat gets in the empty bag and plays in it. They know when you bring them something. I used to have a dog but with my disabilities a cat is much easier to take care of for me. Have a wonderful day.

hi marie oh yes I do not have a cat now as I am in a retirement center but when I did have Midnight she did the same thing I would get up at 7 am as I had to work yet and feed our cat but when we gained the hour she was hungry at the old time but eventually she did get the change only to then go back on daylight savings time. it w as easy when I quit work but before same problems. cats are really creatures of habit like old bachelors lol lol l ol.

Did you notice any difference when we go ahead an hour? I never thought about it affecting the pets as much as us, but it makes sense that it would!

I dont have a cat.. I have a small dog named tootsie. And even with the time change she knows when its 5pm and her dinner time. She heads for the kitchen, waiting for me to open the can food for her. So, my dog like your cat, knew all about that time change a few weeks back.

We also set our clocks back and I, for one, hate the time changes. I just get used to one and it changes. I don't care which one is picked, but pick one and leave it alone. My cat will get in my face and put her nose on mine to wake me up and will annoy me until I get her food. There is no going back to sleep unless she gets her way, either.

Your post made me reconsider why I've found my cats so annoying lately! It's true that they're very schedule-picky; cat's are naturally predators and actually want to eat in intervals throughout the day (similar to a favorite human diet of mine, so I should be more understanding, lol). They'll still need to wait for their meals with me, but it can't hurt to keep to the schedule they're used to.
