In Thailand, Mostly they are Buddhist almost 93% indeed. 5% are Christians and 2% are Muslims. Thus, in their calender they marked it "Christmas Day" but not holiday. Nevertheless, I have to work on that day but it feels weird, though! Because I'm usually celebrate it in the Philippines with my family. And now that I am too far from them, so I don't have a choice to face this kind of situation but I have compatriots here but they are in other places. I might commemorate this occasion with them hopefully if there is enough time to celebrate. We can plan and arrange a schedule to celebrate. How about you this upcoming Christmas Day?? :))

I work in the BPO industry, fondly called call centre and we don't have our schedules released yet so I am not yet sure if I'll be working on Christmas or not, well hopefully I can spend that with my family but I am open on working on holidays since that means double pay!

exactly; what Christmas means to you? celebration? holiday? or religious ritual?
you don't have to be Christian to have celebration or holiday.
and if it's for religious ritual then I'm sure it doesn't need to be off work. you just need one or two hours in church, that's all.
just a thought :)

Been there, done that.
I remember when I was in my early twenties I worked at a deli. I had to pull in shifts on holidays. Xmas eve, Xmas day, New Year's Eve & New Year's Day. That's was by far for me the worse! (Not to mention I showed up hungover on New Year's weekend!)
What's crazy about this whole thing is that a lot of retailers and feeling the pinch of gaining more than what they sell, which shows a sign of bad news for the employers and the economy.

Oh, that's sad. But, well, if you are away from your family, then it may be better if you're out working with your officemates, than be alone at home for christmas.
When I used to work for a call center here in the Philippines, and the service window is 24/7, I also work on all holidays, unless it falls on a rest day. It's sad, but I got used to it. I celebrated 3 Christmases working in the office.

Hi there. Oh. That was not so good news then. But I hope you will still enjoy your Christmas. Why don't you be absent on that day? Will that be okay? Just celebrate it with your family through a live chat in Phil. or treat yourself with something that you haven't experienced before and ofcourse doon't forget to greet our Lord and go to church that day.
