Since I am not an Indian, so I feel curious about the red point that is on the forehead of a girl. Some have the red points but some don't have it. What does this red point mean?

Hi friend, The red point is called Bindhi, if the women wear it in her forehead, it means that she was married, it is the symbol to show whether a girl is married or not. All the women will wear Bindhi in the face above the center point of the two eyebrows only the married women will wear it in the forehead.

So it actually is of 2 colors. The red means the women are married. Some says the dots also means the opening of the third eye. However, it actually looks nice.

I'm glad to know, I've seen such young girls using and am shocked it's a marriage status symbol, like western ring. It's beautiful though!

It isn't a red point. We call it Kumkum and it signifies the status of the married women. Anyone keep it on their forehead. Small kids to gents to old people. But on top of the head, only married women keep it. It is said that keeping kumkum on the wife's forehead will increase the success of the husband and it will guard him to live his life to his fullest. I mean, dheerga ayush ( long life ). It is kept straight in a line signifies that the husband will get the straight path to travel in the life and business and he won't enter into any wrong deeds. People who have lost their husbands won't keep it in their forehead. They keep it when they marry and they remove it when the husband passes away. It comes with him and it goes with him. It is all for the husband it is a great feeling to keep that for your husband.

the red dot signifies piety as well as serving as a constant reminder to keep God in the front of a believer's thoughts. and first you clear that Indian people not apply a dot on forehead, the peoples only Hindus which worship Hindu religion they apply a dot on head not Indian.

So it has nothing to do with the marriage status?
