It is never too late to change your job. The only problem is that, as you get older, it becomes rather more difficult to find a new job with the security and, perhaps, salary of the old one. Until I was 48 I had been working mainly as a bookseller for more than 25 years. I enjoyed the job but the pay was less than I felt I was worth and I was becoming bored. I decided to take a course in computing, more out of interest than for any other reason, and not long after, saw a job for a Computer Support person which I applied for. I think that my age was actually an advantage because a mature person with plenty of experience in dealing with people's problems was what they needed. That I was also actively taking a course in Computer Studies part time and working towards a qualification was in my favour as well and the company agreed to pay the fees for the rest of my course. Unfortunately, that job only lasted for 11 months (because of a reorganisation of the company) and, no sooner had I graduated than I found myself looking for another job. My next job was as telephone support for a software company. I enjoyed that, too, because I am able to communicate well and understand what the customer's problem is without seeing their screen. I missed the human contact somewhat, however, and was glad when another job in Desktop Support turned up. When that job also finished because of a Company reorganisation, I was 60 and seriously began to think that I would not find another job but not long after I was offered one training people in basic computer skills so that they could find jobs! The last five years of my working life, therefore, were spent as a teacher and mentor, convincing many people of about your age that is is never too late to learn new skills, change direction and find work!

Maybe you can but it is very hard shifting careers at that age. Maybe you can find a job that is related to your experience but one that you enjoy. Maybe you just need a change in environment, find another company in which they can offer that kind of job.

Logically, don't get me wrong my friend but its too late for your age. But hey, I don't know you personally, if you really love doing something you love then perhaps there is a good chance you can still excel when you chance your work. As they say, its never too late if you really desire for it and you put your whole effort and handwork for it. The decision is still up to you, think of the possibilities and consequences that you may encountered.. -Happy Mylotting--

Are you in the government office? Good for you because you are secured for your future...on my side, I am not actually for my happiness or sadness on my current job...what I am interested is that the food that I will put in our dining table...I don't care if I am not fitted in my current job, as long as I am earning a descent living for my family and I think it is the best thing that I can do.

Age doesn't matter if you want to change your job. If you believe you are confident enough with your skills then you can apply for higher position in other companies. Though you may be also conscious of the age that they are requiring because sometimes it really happens.

If you are ready to face another challenge why not and if you are still employable. I got my early retirement where I worked for 15 years. Got so tired and routinary already like a robot. I just said "quits and leave" LOL. but I have to be smart on how I spent the retirement that I will get, I studied Teaching English as Foreign Language here in Thailand. I am not an English major, I was a computer science graduate and my usual occupation is teaching computer education. This is a make or break and investment whether to lose or win. But I did it. I found a job teaching English here in Thailand, low pay as compared to what I received back in the Philippnes. but rewarding in a sense that I have to think again and be challenged. no more routinary job for as for now yet because this is new to what I had been doing for the past 20 years of my career life. Same teaching yes but different subject and different students, different environment, different culture. all different all new first time and first experience. So if you are willing to take a risk why not change your job.
