A Cup Of Coffee

I have this friend and we have been friends for over 20 years and have been able to spend time together a lot lately. We have had coffee together over all these years. I know she puts a bunch of nasty stuff in her coffee and I drink mine black (always have). I do not know what she puts in her coffee (I don't know why she wants to mess up a good cup of coffee anyway!) She gets mad at me because I am not sure what all she wants in her coffee so I don't fix it for her and bring it to her... is it wrong of me to expect an adult to be able to fix her own cup of coffee?

Just like you my friend, i let my friends do their cups of coffee. I may be a friend to them , but i don't know how they like their coffee to taste.
I do drink coffee, and it's just during breakfast. For the rest of the day, it depends on my mood. If i am sleepy in the middle of the day , i make one. If i had a big lunch, a cup of coffee would be a very good one to down it.

I drink coffee all day long! I start early in the morning and then drink it most of the day. I am actually trying to cut back a little bit, but I like it any time of day at all!

I think the best option would be to let each person fix their own cup of coffee. I assume that in this situation, your coffee is just a regular cup of joe, correct? For regular coffee, I usually pour in some half-and-half and about 2-3 tsps. of Truvia (which is much sweeter than sugar). Then again if I have flavored half-and-half (like hazelnut flavored) in the house then I'll use that without Truvia. Every once in a while I will get flavored coffee beans (like chocolate hazelnut or vanilla almond) which only require me to use regular half-and-half [without Truvia]. In any given situation, my opinion would be to let your friend fix her own coffee but also for you as the host, provide her with options that will allow her to make that perfect cup every time.

I think you are absolutely right! I keep french vanilla creamer around because I know that's what she likes and of course there is always sugar or sweetener of some sort. I think she puts caramel in it sometimes too but not sure which combination she may use together!

Thank you! I have never heard of putting caramel in coffee but now that I remember, there is another sweetener that my friend uses called "blue agave" and it sort of looks like honey but isn't as thick.

you just aware of her feeling that she may felt intimidated f you were the one to prepare the coffee and she dislike so may eel upset and she too. so it is best to ask her f you are unsure or f she like it then she would be the one to prepare her own coffee according to her own taste. since, some people dislike the other coffee prepare by people whom they do not know or since develop there own preferences.

We are good friends! I talked to her and she understands that I really do not know how much of everything she wants in it.I figure my part is to make sure the things she likes to put in her coffee is available when she is at my house!

Hello my friend! We have indeed been friends for many years and will continue to be friends. She will make her own coffee and I will make mine! lol! If you come I will offer you tea! I like tea but I am afraid I cannot make it as good as what you have in India. I have tasted real tea from India that was very good! It would be fun to have tea together!

No it is not wrong. I'm surprised she is not happy to fix her own coffee. I know that I prefer to fix my own cup of coffee than have my husband do it. I like sugar and creamer in my coffee and he doesn't seem to put enough of it in there. So I don't get upset when he doesn't make me a cup. I'm just happy that he has brewed it and I can get it myself.

She makes her own coffee mostly for that reason - I am sure I would put the wrong amount or the wrong stuff in it if I did try to make it! We are having a lot of fun picking at each other though! lol!

Yeah it is funny to joke around with friends or family about these things. I know I don't like to make my husband's coffee because he is very particularly about his. You have to pure sugar in the bottom of the cup and then pure just the right about of creamer to cover the sugar (nothing more or less). Then as you pour the coffee in you have to stir in the cup at the same time. Then afterwards he always says the creamer color doesn't look right. So he makes his own coffee as well.

Well , each one of us has preferences , right ? So , your friends has her oreferences, and so do you. In fact , I do too ! Ha ha ! For me it is easy. I just drink 3-in-1 packs, easy, and oh yes, tasty too.

Yes we do all have our own preferences! lol! I like my coffee plain and black with nothing in it at all! lol! If you add anything to it - then it's all messed up.

No it is not wrong to think an adult can make their own coffee, but she probably thinks since she is at your place you could make it for her. Also she probably thinks you know after all these yrs how she likes it. If you have trouble making her coffee for any reason at all just let her know. Explain things to her and she might not be upset. Don't ruin a 20 yr friendship over something as unimportant as fixing a cup of coffee.

My friend likes to put all sorts of nasty stuff in their coffee. She likes sugar and creamer I think and then sometimes she puts caramel in it. Yuk! I just like mine plain, black and perfect!

No its not wrong for your friend to expect you to bring her
a cup of coffee..whats wrong is that you friend dosen't realize
that your coffee taste is different from hers and she needs
to realize that...You don;t do anything but black coffee and
she wants other stuff in her coffee and it seems like you
don't even know what it is.. How can you bring her a cup of
coffee the way she likes it when you don't even know what
the additives she put in her ooffee.
.so whats the difference if
you don' bring her a cup of coffee or you being her a cup of
coffee which is horribe to her???

She likes sugar and creamer in it I know that. But sometimes I see her put caramel in it too. It's confusing since I do not know what she wants in it at any one time of the day! She certainly would gripe if I made it wrong and it tasted bad!

I also like strong coffee but with little cream and sugar. But if it's really something good, I can have it black but not too strong. Everyone in my family are big coffee drinkers and they seem to prefer those instant coffee and those 3 in 1 variants because everyone's always in a hurry in the morning to bother fixing a brewed one. Good thing that there's a lot of variety in the market now that we can choose which one is th eleast ghastly when it comes to those instant creamers and sweeteners.

I like Community Coffee - it's all I buy. I have to order it online though to make sure I keep it in stock. It has a great flavor and I still like it with nothing in it at all! If I am in too big of a hurry I put my pot on auto so that it will make before I get up and it's ready to go!

I have not heard of having coffee with honey, only tea. But I am sure that it would just make it sweet and might be okay if you like sweetener and milk in the coffee. i do like a good mocha now and then and I do like caramel in it. But for the most part I simply like plain ole coffee!

In the UK, the majority of people drink coffee with milk and sugar - I would imagine that black coffee being such a staple in the US goes back to the the frontier days, when it was not feasible to carry milk and sugar around.
My own take on this is if someone comes to your house and you offer them a drink or beverage, then it is only proper that you provide the beverage that is requested.

Very good insight. I do provide the additives that she desires. I make sure I have the creamer, sugar and caramel on hand. I just never know how much of each she will desire or which ones she desires. So I keep it here and let her put that in! You are probably right that black coffee comes from pioneer days.

You are the friend of hoseasmate or her earlier subject "Is my friend selfish or am I sensitive?" just reminded you of the problem ?:P Anyway... maybe your friend thinks that after 20 years you should know how she likes her coffee, just by seeing what she was doing for all those years; just explain her your problem and don't make such a big case out of it ;)

hi macdingolinger no you are not wrong as an adult who loves good coffee I would also expect her to fix her own as she just has to pollute with a bunch
of stuff.I would hand a cup of black coffee and say " hop to it
as there's all the additives right there" then let her fix it for
herself.
Why people have to put a bunch of stuff in it is beyond me. I
see nothing wrong with her fixing her own cup of coffee the way\
she prefers it.

I like mine strong and black! I will get specialty coffees now and then that are sweet and have chocolate in them but most of the time I drink mine without anything in it at all.
