That'll Teach Me For Not Picking My Order Up For Free From The Store

On Saturday night we're going to Diane's house-warming party. I'm pleased for her as she wanted to 'downsize' so she managed to sell her bigger house and move into this smaller one, all in the space of a year..so good going Di!
I wanted to buy some jeggings from the M&S website (as you do) and found some raspberry ones..the only pair left in my size. The site was 'calling' me to buy them..so I did, at £9 a throw.
Bargain.
Not quite.
Because I wanted them to come before Diane's party (mid-week or so) I thought, 'Sod it, I'll pay for Next Day Delivery' and that bumped the price up to £13.99 but I wasn't bothered.
Until I had to take them back to the store today. I looked hideous in them. So used to wearing leggings you see.
Upon receiving my £9 back on the Switch card I asked the nice lady on Customer Services, 'What happens with the delivery charge?'
'Oh, I'm afraid you don't get that back,' was her reply.
'That'll teach me to order something online and not pick it up in-store for FREE!'
The lady was very sympathetic, so I've learned a valuable lesson.
The only company to have 'gained' are City Link, the couriers. Pure laziness made me use the Next Day Delivery Service. I reckon, if I'd gone down the In-Store Free Collection route, I'd be able to pick them up by the time Saturday had come round anyway..
..but I'd still look hideous in the 'jeggings.'
Haha!

you have to place a value on your time, janey, and not feel bad about this.
finding something to wear for a party is hard work and time consuming, the sooner you work out that your first idea, the red jeggings, wouldn't work, (and that is more likely to be the fault of m&s than you, as their cheapest clothes aren't always good quality, you probably would have looked wonderful in an expensive pair), the more time you had left to find something else.
so though it is annoying to have spent the money on delivery, and it would probably have been better to pick them up from the shop, it's still a useful learning experience, and getting next day delivery gave you more time to find an alternative.
what are you going to wear instead?

The party has been and gone and I wore pull-on trousers that have a slight black and white check in them (dogtooth I think it's called) as no-one in Carlisle (apart from hubby) have seen them before, so I got away with it. I teamed it with a 'spangly top' I was going to wear at Christmas and the two looked great together, so, in a way I'm pleased with myself...and yes, it is a learning curve not getting the delivery charge back. Normally, I find sites where the delivery charge is free on ALL ORDERS but M&S charge up until £30 or £50, can't remember which.

My daughter did that with a ring she bought at Overstock.com. She paid for faster shipping and paid more than what the ring cost. That was just stupid. Not you, when I say stupid. The shipping company makes out like a bandit. That's what is stupid. My daughter's ring is a reproduction of Princess Diana ring that the new princess wears now. It's really pretty, but I would never spend so much for shipping.

Yes, we have a British version of Overstock now and it's all in pounds, although, obviously, the goods would have to be shipped from the US.
I would never pay more for shipping than what the item cost either which is why I was annoyed that I chose to pay shipping AT ALL as I could've picked the garment up for free from the store..which is within walking distance of our home!
I bet your Princess Di 'copy ring' is fab. At first I thought it was odd that the Duchess of Cornwall was using it as her engagement ring but I guess it makes sense. It means that Princess Di is living on in some way.
How I love her boys, they're so cute!

Yes, those boys are adorable. That ring looks so real that my daughter has. I've seen documentaries about the boys. To me, they act like regular guys instead of royalty. The one not married seemed more like a "bad boy type." That's just what I have seen on TV. I would love to see them in person. I always loved Princess Di. I cried do hard when I got the news of her being killed in a car wreck just for being chased by the poperatzi.
Have a wonderful day!

I do try to find Free Delivery on those voucher sites, etc, and have saved money doing so. Unfortunately, this was not available with M&S although if I wasn't such a lazy so-an-so I could've picked the item up for free..and I ended up going there anyway didn't I?

Nothing goes waste in this world really not even the blunder one commits because of laziness. You have learnt your lesson!

Sorry to hear that you don't get the delivery charge back. That is a bummer. Yeah next I'm sure you will definitely pick it up at the store. Also sorry to hear that you did not like the way you looked in them.
Hope you are able to find a pair you like or get you some more leggings. I know how you feel about not liking the way something looks. This summer my husband and I went a way for a weekend trip. I tried on all types of outfits and ended up hating all of them. So I decided to just buy me some shorts and a top my husband liked.
I was hoping to have a semi formal look but ended up with comfy and casual. Which was nice though for the trip.

I ended up wearing trousers I've worn before (at the party although no-one there had seen them previously) but I'm glad I wore them because Diane's dog kept jumping up at me when I was sat down. I chose to sit by the food you see, so I could put my glass down on the table. So, these trousers were a bit thicker (and warmer) than my leggings and I still had my 'spangly' top on that I'd not worn before.
I don't know why they call 'jeggings' er..'jeggings' because all they are are stretchy jeans. No way do they look like a cross between leggings and jeans as they have the jean waistband and pockets! Not this particular pair, anyway, but I do know they exist as Mum has some.

I'm glad that your outfit turned out like you liked for the party. It can be hard to know what we want to wear or to replace a top or bottom when one outfit doesn't work out. That is cool that they have pockets and a waistband. They really are like jeans I probably wouldn't like the way they look on me either. I hate buying something and not liking the way things look, because I hate to try clothes on as well.

You're lucky that you actually got your product the next day. I've paid [more than $14] for next-day shipping only to be waiting a few days for my package to even arrive at the local post office. Then I have to wait for the post office to get it to me, so by the time I finally get my product I say to myself that if I had at least asked for ground shipping I wouldn't be so angry.

I guess you're living in a bigger country though, right (not that that's an excuse to having to wait so long for delivery) and I can well understand why you would get so angry about it too.
