Buying a little something for myself

Well, Kathryn and I met my mother at Wal-Mart at seven yesterday evening so that I could pick up the last couple of toys that I wanted to get for the kids for Christmas, I got bikes for the both of them. I also ended up picking up some pajamas for both of them (something that I always get for them for their birthday and for Christmas) and a comforter. In addition to all of those gift items, I also picked up a really cute photo collage set with a placard that says "Family" and a nine opening photo collage. This was something that I had to buy for myself. This leads me to the reason for this discussion. I wonder if I am the only person that goes out with the intention of only doing Christmas shopping, but always ends up with a little something for themselves. In the past it has been Bath and Body Works shower gel or something similar plus a couple of DVDs that I get for myself. This year it was just a seven dollar picture frame set. When you go out for your Christmas shopping, do you always end up with a little something that you hadn't intended to buy that you've purchased as a small gift to yourself? What was the last thing that you bought for yourself when you were out shopping for gifts? Oh yeah, Kathryn also had to buy something for herself. She is a budding artist and ended up using her portion of the piggy bank at Grandma's house for a set of Crayola markers, she picked out some Hot Wheels for her brother with his portion and then they got a set of Twistables crayons and colored pencils to share with what was left of the money.

hi dear dorannmwin, I just found out that this happened unintentionally over here. LOL. As I dont have the time to shop in the stores due to my abnormally long commute to and from work, I found an online store, completely new to me, selling tea and coffee. Great, as I still needed a birthday present for a close friend who enjoys vanilla flavored coffee. I got her this and two other flavors, cinnamon and toasted almonds........ We are co workers and she just today told me she has given her coffee maker away and now uses a coffeepad machine she got as a great bargain. She said so please dont get me coffee for my bday...... Oooooops....... Now I will use that nice coffee for myself I guess. I know too few people who love these flavored coffees.....

I do think that there are times that something like that does happen. But hey, if you don't want to drink the flavored coffees, I would be happy to receive them in my mailbox. I use a Keurig coffee maker these days, but I got a reusable K-cup so that I can buy any flavored coffees (or just plain Folgers) and use that in my machine. The reusable K-cup is the best investment that I've ever made.

I've no flavor preference and you do have a PM. I'm laughing out loud right now because my husband said to see if you would send some Kindereggs for the kids. LOL. No need to do that at all, he just got excited when I said something about a friend in Germany.

Seldom do I go to supermarket. What we have here in our town is a public market and we are staying just beside it. When I have an extra budget after buying all we need in the market, I always end up buying a little something for myself. But that is not always because we have a very tight budget. However, I save my earnings here for a little something for myself. :) I am saving it up so that I can buy online what I wanted.

I can see what you mean about saving up money so that you are able to buy something that you want as well. I consider myself to be lucky that I have been able to buy most of the things that I want to get via online shopping with gift cards that I've been able to earn. But, there are times that I do have to save those up to be able to make a purchase of something that I want or need.

Oh, I absolutely love mylot and I spend some time on here every day. However, I do have to admit that my sites that I'm able to earn the most on are sites other than mylot. However, I do think that living in the United States does mean that I have more earning opportunities than many other people have.

I wish to find other online earning site to buy something for myself. :) I am tired signingb in to many sites but most are unfruitful for me. So I just stay here in myLot and enjoy myself aside from earning. Gift cards are fun but I think there are no site that offers here in my country.

you are really like me...or i may say i am really like u......and this time (Diwali is same for us as Christmas is to you all)...when i went Diwali shopping I had planned first day few things for home decoration and saree for myself and second day budget was for kids...but first day my budget was so much disturbed that I bought extra bed-sheets, some flowers for vase...etc etc and there was no chance left for my saree ...next day as planned i did shopping for Kids...and now after Diwali I purchased saree (had to face the situation for going out of budget) ....thinking that now wedding season is on in India..so it will be good to keep them fresh...though it was just a thought to keep my mind in peace....

I have been trying really hard to stay within a budget this year and though I did try to talk myself out of the picture frames, I also realize the fact that they were less than ten dollars so they really weren't a budget breaker for me.

I went Christmas shopping with my sister last monday and ended up buying a few things for my card making. Well actually we decided to go back to her house and make a few cards. I have stuff there as she and I do that once in a while....so I "had" to buy a few things to add to my stash there! LOL..another excuse to buy stamps? LOL

You can definitely tell that you are a true crafter because of the fact that you will look for any and all excuses to buy some more supplies for yourself. That is okay though because if I recall correctly, you do sell some of the crafts that you make.

I do most of my shopping on the internet, as I am unable to get out to get it.The things that I do not get online I get a friend to collect for me. When I use to go out shopping for things I used to spend all my money on all the people in the house, rather than get myself anything, now I try to save as much money as I can, as all the bills keep getting bigger and bigger. Glad you treat yourself when you get the chance.

It honestly is very rare that I do get something for myself. This year I've done much of my shopping online because I had gift cards. However, I do have to admit that I've made a couple trips to Wal-Mart and Target and I still have another trip or two that I need to take between now and Christmas.

I always do that. I praise myself for doing the Christmas shopping on time :). Also, there are stuff that I know nobody would wanna buy for me in my family :). I usually buy a CD or some costume jewelry. This year, I'm planning to buy one of those cute make up sets from Clinique. It's a bit pricey and pricier than the stuff I usually get for myself, but I think I deserve it :).

Normally it is some new movies for myself, but I wasn't able to find the one movie that I really wanted this year. That's okay though because I know that the picture frames that I got are going to go to good use.

I do sometimes get myself something when i go shopping for others. i don't think this is a bad things since you spent all the money you did on the kids. You got them all these gifts so why not get yourself just a little something.I mean what you spent on the kids was way more than what you spent on yourself and your worth it just like the kids are. The last thing i bought myself was something to eat when i was out shopping.

I really don't think that there is anything wrong with doing a little something for myself every now and then, I really have to say that I was mainly just curious about whether or not there were other people that bought themselves a little something when they intended to only spend on other people.

I have not done that in ages. I will be doing my Christmas Shopping early next month when things will hopefully die down. With Randy's foot it is hard for him to get around where there are large crowds. I have a list of what I need to buy and who I need to buy for so it should be easy for me. I ordered my niece her weaving loom kit and also a book for Randy (both from amazon). I am making homemade gifts for my mom, my grandparents, my cousins and my aunt and I have been working on those for a while now. Randy is always the hardest one to shop for because he tells me that he does not need anything.

I know what you mean on that one. Tom tends to be the one that is tough for me to shop for because he isn't one that is vocal about what he wants or needs at all. I was going to get him some new hand tools this year, but my father-in-law ended up giving him a 300 piece Mechanic's tool set on Thanksgiving, so I am somewhat at a loss of what to get for him if I decide to not give him something that I've already bought.

I don't go shopping in the mall often. But, when I do groceries, yes, I would often get something for myself that is not originally part of the grocery list. It could be a small pouch of hairgloss or some goodies.

The closest that I come to getting a treat for myself when I go to the grocery store is that I will often stop at Starbucks after I've gotten done getting my groceries. But, it is similar to what you've described as doing for yourself when you go grocery shopping.

Hi friend, good to know about your Christmas shopping activities. Some times we will purchase some unexpected things based on the situation. We go for shopping to buy a thing and we purchase other thing due to some reasons, this kind of activities are quite common. There is nothing wrong in purchasing an unexpected thing, if it is good for us as well as not an unwanted spending.

Honestly, it was unexpected spending that I ended up spending on myself, but I do feel like the amount that I spent on myself was very minimal and that is the only reason that I don't feel guilty about the small gift that I purchased for myself.

I do that myself. I like to give myself something special at time. I believe the last thing I bought myself my last Christmas a coat. Not so much for the coat but it was really nice and I wanted it so I got it. I don't shop all the time but I can't forget about myself.

Honestly, most of the time I don't buy anything for myself because I always feel so guilty about it afterward. I even tried to talk myself out of the picture frames, but my mother just wouldn't let me do it as she was shopping with me at the time.

Of course, I always give myself a gift anyway I worked for it. Not just christmas but also birthdays. This year I did not receive any birthday gift from myself, because there is nothing here to buy that i liked. And myself is a bit tight on budget LOL. This Christmas I might be able to gift myself but it's a surprise so its a shhhh for the meantime. but I am planning to buy myself a couple of yards of silk Thai. That is if I will be able to go Chiang Mai again here in my place there is nothing really to buy no mall no nothing. The last time I gave myself as a birthday gift... hmmm scholarship. I studied for a short course.

I didn't give myself a gift for my birthday this year because of the financial mess that we were in at the time. We are still in a financial mess right now as well, but things are definitely getting better for us.
