English is a universal language, you can use this dialect wherever we want to go. I'm here in Thailand for a job purpose to teach conversational English to the high school students but some has difficulty in it ! not all ... I was a teacher also in primary last 6 months and it's hard to teach during your first time because of language barrier, you cannot able to communicate. So, I used some actions for them to understand but now I'm happy that I transferred in high school, they can able to reach out and understand it little by little because sometimes I usually translate it into Thai since that I can speak simple Thai words. How about you? did you experience of having difficulty in communicating with other nationals? :)

Yes, not just in Thais but with vietnamese too. Whew, it was quite difficult and sometimes frustrating. You want to express more and ask more but your tongue is cut because simply you don't know how to say it. Grrrr... anyway, good for you. You are going to be a great teacher.

Not only foreigners, there were times it was hard communicating with a fellow countryman. Although English is our secondary language, there are still those in my country that cannot express themselves in this language. And speaking our national language, which is Filipino, doesn't help neither because there are those who speak their dialect which I'm not familiar with. It's can really be a little frustrating when we can't communicate properly with another person

hi,
i am graduated in Education field too,and you are lucky because you already experienced to handle foreigner students and that was really a challenge for you to teach them,if that will happen to me i think i will express some words in action too or else i will need to study their language so that i can translate my English.

Yes indeed. I am an English tutor to Japanese and I don't even speak Nihongo. It's fun teaching Japanese students because I am very much interested to their culture. However, there would often be times when I would look up a word's japanese translation in an online dictionary.

Yes, it is really hard to communicate with someone with different language. In fact, even here in our country, we have a National language which is the Filipino language but still others cannot be able to communicate because there are other dialects spoken and written. Filipino Language is only spoken when others do not understand other's mother dialect. Examples are Ilocano, Visayan , Bicol , Yvatan , Itawes, Waray and many others.

oh yes it is common here in uganda where we have so many tribes and proud of their languages so in order for you to communicate you either turn to english or use actions but either of those have failed then you have to learn a little words for you communicate effectively.

I also have some experience in language barrier. There are many German guys in our company, and some of young Germans can speak English fluently, but the elder ones can only speak German and only a little English. But i have never leart German, so it is very hard for me to talk with them. But fortunately, the company will offer us German language training, then it will be ok for me to speak to all kinds of German guys.
