Hello Lotters,
Looks like the President Pnoy is getting more popular with the other ASEAN members after he made a courageous stand against the Host of ASEAN in Cambodia, which is an ally of CHINA.
Now, they set to resume their opposition in a meeting that will be held in Manila on December 12. I wonder if his diplomatic stand would match with our military, which has nothing compare to them. but I really admire his stand, just that, we got internal problems, too much for our military to handle.
not a referral link.
they said, it's worthless, but at least they're doing something

I do not think that Philippines can really face this via military option because we all know that China is very capable of invading us if they wanted to. But since we are a good ally of the US they would not dare to just do that.
I think this administration will be doing whatever they can diplomatically but will never resort to military option because we all know that we cannot. I am happy that at least majority of ASEAN nation somehow supports our stand. We are at least one of the original countries that founded ASEAN and Cambodia was just recently added.

Well I guess that is what we call national pride. I can understand China and the many claimants of this area. I think it is not only China but Vietnam, Malaysia, and Brunei is staking a claim in this area. It just happen that China is basing their claim base on historical data they have that they own that area. Our claim is is because of an international law and history as well. Since these islands are very near our country we have the exclusive right to use it for our country.
What makes this area interesting since many are staking at the vast potential of this area which for many years was unknown to many. I think anyone who can control this area might as well be able to get a lot of oil reserves.

@semicolonp well I guess if China would have known US would not intervene in any international conflict they could have stretched their muscle a long time ago. I think militarily US might not assist us but I still think that they will do their best that no armed conflict arise in these region where their influence will not be recognized. I think once China would start to stretch their influence around its vicinity US would lose grip here and Philippines being one of its staunch supporter is just the tipping point here. If they lose us they might lose grip on the entire Asian region since we all know they do not have that close and friendly relationships with Malaysia & Indonesia as well as with Vietnam and Cambodia.
We are still an important link to them somehow and this I think is what China is avoiding to flare up in Asia.

Most of Asean Nations have the same agenda with the Philippines against China.
No wonder they sided with us. China put claim on all South China sea as their territories which got competing claims from the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia. The South China Sea contains over 250 small islands, atolls, cays, shoals, reefs, and sandbars. Because South China sea is so big, almost all Asean members have a claimant in that part of the world.
According to Wikipedia, Currently the Philippines is occupying nine features (seven islands, three reefs). As a comparison, Vietnam occupies six islands, seventeen reefs and three banks. The Republic of China (Taiwan) has one island and one reef. Malaysia has one artificial island and five reefs. The People's Republic of China has eight reefs.
Diplomatically as a group, all Asean nations claimant has a better chance against Mainland China, militarily, no one has a chance against the military might of the Chinese. Let us hope all this will be settled peacefully because in war there is no winner...
Have a nice evening.
Ciao!

It is admirable. I think that great leaders should always show strength in times of adversity or, in this case, threat of war. Yes, we are really outmatched but you never know. There are some small nations that repelled the aggressions of the larger ones. Take Vietnam War for example.

I am proud that our president was firm with his stand, Letran. At least now the other Asian nations have also gotten their courage to side with them.
I pray and hope that they will win their stand on this.

It's good to know that we have a President who knows how to speak his mind and make his stand even if he is in a foreign country. While it is true, that we cannot just stand against China (in terms of our military force), we should still know how to hold our pride and dignity.

President Pnoy's standoff is for diplomatic settlement and not merely involving military form of rectification. ASEAN countries getting more interested of such claimed territory simple because of its owned natural resources. As initial reports disclosed, Scarborough shoal contained billions or trillions of barrels of oil which is also equivalent to the oil stock of Qatar as reported. Not only oil can be benefited in Scarborough it is to said that coral reefs, fishes and other maritime resources has also richly contained on that area. And why our country standing firm to our claim? simply because among of all neighboring ASEAN countries the Philippines itself was the nearest nautical miles territory compared to china and other ASEAN countries.

We must take a stand but only on peaceful means. We are a peace-loving country, we do not want to settle disputes like barbarians. Let's do it the civil way and I think it's not just the US that will be behind the Philippines. Japan, another superpower will also be with us and other Asian countries. I don't think China would be willing to fight the whole world. Besides, we have many Chinese nationals in our country, so they do not also want to jeopardize their safety here.

i love hearing this news. i am so tired hearing negative feedbacks about our country and about us people. its very much degrading and discouraging. we really need a leader who knows and have a firm stand to take himself to what is right for his countrymen and besides there is a concerning agency all over the world to protect the country's right in a correct process. i just hope diplomacy will work for it. thanks
