Have you ever had (or heard of ) costochondritis?

It's a chest inflammation that is very painful. At first, I thought I was having a heart attack. I couldn't really breathe when laying flat. My chest hurt like two tubby cats were on it. Ouch, then the doctor hit me in chest (not hard), and I nearly cried. Then it was two more days of bed rest. Ugh! Just what I needed after breaking my leg. More bed rest! Have you have heard of this? Anything I can do to make it get better faster?

Wow, that must have been scary! I would have thought it was a heart attack also. I have never heard of that condition, but it sounds very unpleasant. The bed rest would definitely be frustrating, especially if you've just been resting for awhile cause of a broken leg! I'm not sure how to make it go away more quickly, since I've never had it, but I guess getting enough rest will probably be the best thing for it to heal up quickly. I hope you are feeling better soon!

Never heard of it. That's why I was caught to check this discussion out. Hmmm...I might want to check that one out as I do often experience chest pains. However, I am just thinking it to be heart burn. Will be keen on this discussion on how to avoid such conditions.

Oh my gosh, I never heard of this. I actually had to look it up to see what it was. I can't imagine why your doctor hit you in the chest when what I read, they can just push on the chest. Plus, they have no idea what causes it? And it mostly is in women. How strange. And they did say it reminds you of a heart attack..that's awful!! Hope you feel better really soon!

First time I heard this name. Will have to look online for more details I think. Hope you are completely well now. And hope this is not something that can reoccur.

I have never heard of this costochondritis but I had pleurisy and it is very painful as well. I had both galbladder attack and pleurisy and that was probably one of the most painful things that every happened to me. It feels lke someone stabbed me in the chest several times. THe only thing that make it feel better was ice water. My first experience with it I thought I was having a heart attack also. Try not to hyperventalate and take slow deep breaths.

Hit cripfemme, I have never heard of that, but I know I get this awful feeling in my chest sometime and it hurts so bad that I can't even talk ..it hurts for a while and then just go away..my doctor did not know what was going on...but I had several test and he just could not tell me what it was. I don't get it very ofter as a matter of fact I had it last friday and had not experienced it for over 6-8 months...I can't narrow it down to anything, sitting, standing, walking talking, eating, drinking or anytime.. it just comes at random.. I wish I knew what that was also...
