Our ten-year-old girl, I notice, tends to sweat a lot especially after school and, I have to say this, I think she has body odor. I did try to make her use deodorants before but she stopped using them because she said they make her pits sweat more. So how she'd been deodorant-free for months and I think she needs to go back to using one because of her body odor. What do you suggest? I went around the supermarket looking for something for kids and one that will not make her sweat more, but I could not find one. Why doesn't deodorant makers come up with deodorants for kids? Please share your experience on this.

Have you tried rock salt deodorants? They don't make you sweat more or less, but they provide a layer of protection so that the bacteria don't grow. The bacteria is what causes the odor, so the result is odor-free sweat. It's very natural and hypoallergenic, since it's just salt.

Crystal salt is not the regular salt then? I wonder where can I possibly buy that.

The brand I have seen the most often is called Crystal Salt. It is available at several grocery stores, and definitely at all-natural groceries and pharmacies. However, in other countries I would ask pharmacists or grocers if they carry large rock salt. For application, just make sure that either the skin or the salt is a bit damp, and rub the salt on. This will create a drying effect, so you will know that it's "on".

this worked for my sister. she puts fine powdered tawas (bought from sidewalk vendors) in the water for her final rinse. (but make sure your hair has been shampooed and rinsed already. the "tawas" water is only for the body and only for rinsing. she said wetting your hair with it will make it stiff.)

This also worked for my kid sister. Thing is even those deodorant out in the market that claims they're mild and hypoallergenic still irritates her underarm. If you have the time, you can also consult a dermatologist so she can suggest a much better deo fit for young kids.

Alum is available in India as well. I believe that it is used in Ayurveda, so any Ayurvedic practitioner would know where to find it. It's an anti-toxin.

I know about "tawas" but I wonder if the kid will want to use it since you said we have to mix it with water.

My daughter is close to the same age as your daughter is and she is a girl that uses deodorant on a regular basis. She has been using Suave deodorant since I had her start using it. It has been something that has cut down her body odor and the amount that she sweats. The thing that is the most important when you are getting something for your daughter, don't just look for a deodorant because that will only neutralize the body odor, instead, you need to look for something that is both a deodorant and an antiperspirant.

deodorant for kids?.i prefer not to use deodorant for the kids because the more you apply for your kids will cause bad odor, its good to apply baby powder..and and you have to bath three times a day so they feel fresh all the times.. have a nice day ;)

Active kids are supposed to sweat to release toxins, have her shower more often and drink plenty of water. Read the labels of youe average supermarket deodorant, nobody needs the chemicals like aluminum absorbing into the armpit. Try something natural from local healthfood store or rub lavender esential oil blended with carrier straight into armpit, kills odor and is beneficial.

I don't think kids need deoderant before they hit puberty. Dunk her in the tub.
