Since I stay on the top floor of the building I can walk any number of times up and down the stairs without being noticed by anyone. So I have from today started this as my new form of excercise. Have exactly twenty steps to go up. Went up 15 times today. Will try and increase it from tomorrow. This option is good for me since I am able to keep an eye in the kitchen while exercising so am able to prepare my food in the morning and do my daily exercise.

Hello mayka123! Really using the stairs as a somewhat your new form of exercise is a great thing. We may not noticed it that we are already doing an exercise by just walking, it has done a lot of benefits to our health. Just like you, I use the stairs in the school as my exercise since I have classes in the fifth floor.

At home, at work, anywhere you can exercise with ease. As long as there are stairs. According healthcommunities.com, go up the stairs on a regular basis can improve cardiovascular fitness and stamina. Up the stairs is an aerobic activity, which is good to train the heart and blood circulation. This will increase leg strength as well. If at the beginning feels heavy, start with 25 steps or more. Then gradually increase the number of steps. When climbing stairs or down, keep your back straight. You also may slightly bend forward from the hips. Climb the stairs two at a time in a single step is a good exercise for the muscles in the feet (especially the quadriceps) and gluteal muscle. However, people with knee problems should be careful when trying this exercise. And if your legs are short, you may be at risk of injuring a groin muscle. Going down the stairs is also good exercise. On the way down the stairs, you use thigh muscles quadriceps and hamstrings. Be careful not to stretch your knee while descending. If you down a lot of stairs, you can give excessive weight to the knee and thigh make you sick. Even so, the pain will be reduced with more frequent exercise. To improve your fitness, you can try to jump up and run a bit faster.

i know someone who takes care of a special child. part of his therapy is to carry a backpack and go up and down the stairs of their housing several times every morning. when the caregiver had her day off her friends were amazed at how much weight she had lost.
i've lived in a bungalow all my life and there are no stairs near here. so when i go to the mall, i use the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator.

Hi mayka!
It is indeed a bright idea to climb up and down your stairs. Doctors also tell that if you can not go for a walk climbing up stairs and getting down is one of the best exercise and it will keep you fit.
You could increase the periodicity by was of practice.

Mayka, indeed climbing stairs is the most easiest form of exercise for our body. It is the natural way of exercising our body. When i was at my parents home, i always like to climb the stairs. For me, after climbing the stairs a few rounds, it makes me feel wonderful and fit. Even i see my weight goes down a little, when we are able to climb the stairs regularly. It is another good way to burn the fat in our body. Have a nice day and do take care always...

Having exercise really helps us to have a healthy body, we don't really need to have a heavy exercise, a light exercise will do,just to keep out body active all day.And climbing on stairs is really a good one. It's not tiring at all and doesn't need much effort to it.Great idea indeed.

Thanks for the inspiration. I live on the third floor of my apartment complex, so it would be very easy for me to adopt this habit too. I will start tomorrow!

I also think that climbing stairs is one of the new form of exercise and one of the best form of exercise. It is always good to climb stairs rather than going elevator. I think it is good to walk and to go up and down stairs.
