Why do dogs perform an eerie howl at night.

Could it be that they have seen an entity, or a somewhat spirit being. I believe that is the case.
When I was young, we used to have a poultry business composed of 3000 chickens laying eggs, and big fruit trees all over the place. Our land was about 3 hectares. So, you could just imagine the number of dogs that we had. We even had goats roaming all over the place, breeding on it's own. About 10 of them.
So mentioning about the dogs, we had about 15. Plenty, huh. So here is what's happening. Why was it, that every noon, they howl, all of them together, making a duet, and face in the same direction, all of them facing in the same direction. Every noon, why?

In our province we all believe that when a dog howls it means that they sense something. It can be a spirit that roams around at the wee hour of the night. Or something bad that has to be happen. Dogs are know with their strong senses. Their sense of smelling is one of their characteristic, they smell if there's bad happen inside their territory. Sense of feeling, dogs can feel when something strange are approching their way. And sense of hearing, they can hear even on a far distance that if someone is coming. Dogs are one of those animals that are of big help to us people. SO treat them right because they can be a friend also ^_^

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes it is very weird at night when the bunch of dogs howl and that too at a very sharp pitch. It seems more eerie and negative thoughts crop up in my mind also. i have heard from many people that dogs have an ability to recognize the evil spirits and may be that is the reason why they howl at night. in fact they even howl if they sense anything weird or uncanny around them. I hope we get to know more about this in the future.
What say?
