In our country, going to church every Sunday is an obligation. My mother when I was little would bring us to church every Sunday and other days of obligation. But I found going to church so tiresome (as a kid). I did not like to kneel down because it hurt my knees. However, my mother would always bribe us with "halo-halo" after church so that made me go with her every Sunday. Now that I am of age, I have stopped going to church every Sunday. It is not that I am no longer a believer. No, I am still a believer and I still consider myself a Catholic but I just feel like doing my prayer at home or any place where I can privately have my conversation with God. How about you? Do you make it a point to go to church every Sunday?

First of all I would like to say that I'm Protestant, just saying. Ofcourse there are some obligations but choice is yours. But I go to church every Sunday, its quite rare that I miss Sundays, it's like to show your gratitude and give thanks to the Lord for what He's done over the week, and it also creates a fellowship, I mean you got to meet people of the churches after a week, talk with them, etc etc. Yeah sometimes there are days when you feel lazy and not in the mood. But personally I go to church whenever I'm free on Sundays.

While your country is strongly Catholic, that doesn't mean that there aren't other religious groups there. I can see, though, how you could feel familial and social pressure to attend.
We don't attend church, because we are Jewish. My boyfriend was born Jewish, and I am working to convert to Judaism. Right now, we live in the U.S.; that could eventually change, though, since my boyfriend is eying distant shores.

I have always attended church at least once a week since I was born. There were times in the past where I went to church out of a sense of obligation and that was frustrating. However, I began to understand the importance of attending church weekly. I enjoy the time I get to spend with my fellow church members. It's a great time of fellowship with one another. I know that I can worship and pray anywhere, anytime, but sometimes I need to feel the power of worship with other people. There are times I need to know that I'm not alone in my struggles. There are times we have to lean on each other. That's what church provides for me and that's why I enjoy attending weekly.

as a kid I was send to sunday school.. so we were not in church because to that church's opinion it was not understandable for children. If we were staying with one of my grannies we went to her church but she mostly did not go over. According to her it was because she had to cough a lot. As I told her that no good christian would mind if an other christian was coughing in the church I made her very angry.
I don't go to church anymore. To my opinion it has nothing to do with god. Also the people over there/visiting church are not very social and do not love their neighbours at all. It's more like a fashion show and a lot of gossiping as well. This besides of the boredom, it's always ice cold and people fall asleep as well. I also don't see the need to wake up early to hear something that doesn't make sense and what I can read myself to. My children do know what religion is, what a bible is, they went to some Catholic schools as well (they been on different kind of schools), they are able to respect others because of their believes but interesting is that the others are not respecting them, are even threatening my 9 year old son and 7 year old daughter. I will never make a point of going to church. If you believe in god/goddess or ... that should be possible everywhere. Since that believe, the feeling should be inside you. If you believe god created everyting then everything is fine (a stone as well) to be with him.

I try to go to church every Sunday, but sometimes I feel that I am better able to appreciate and understand God's word on my own. I feel that same way as you in that praying at home or another place gives me more privacy with God. It's also a way to get away from any distractions because it's just strictly me and God. I also like the idea of attending bible study because there it is a gathering of a small group. It's much more personal, and I feel more comfortable to share my thoughts, questions, and ideas about the Catholic faith.

A pleasant day to you Cutie18f,
I do always make it a point that I go and attend masses every Sunday. Since this is a part of my covenant. Hence, my weekend will not be complete if I didn't able to attend at least an hour of mass in a span of a week.

I go every Saturday (the TRUE Sabbath ), for the fellowship (and the food ... in fact, the place/group doesn't even call itself a church! It's "Gospel Celebration Fellowship!")
Jesus even SAID not to pray in public---I don't guess He was sayin` 'praying in public is a "sin",' but rather that 'what you say' doesn't matter (like it would in public speaking) so much as 'your conversation is with' (Praying out loud in public, your conversation is with 'the group'; only silently or more-likely when you're alone is all your conversation totally with G*d).
That's why I frequently tell the kids at Gospel Celebration Fellowship that--though Pastor-Mary Ann or -Jack use all sorts of big, pretty words to talk to G*d with the Fellowship--you-all just need to remember to love G*d all by yourself when you get home
But you ought to go to fellowship/church once a week to show people that you are a "real person" when you're not being 'professionally Cute.'

I don't go to church every Sunday anymore and I feel guilty about it. I stopped going to church regularly when I was working. I always worked weekends and on Wednesday nights when prayer meetings were going on. You can still pray and have a relationship with God without going to church. The main reasoning behind going to church is to learn the scriptures and have fellowship with the congregation and God. I actually loved going to church when I was going, but once you get out of the habit of going it's hard to get back into it. In 1994 I got saved and baptized, then in 1999 I started working all the time. I started doing security work, then with the county. While I was on the street I met all types of people and was able to talk with them about Jesus. I got into many bible discussions with people and made a lot of friends. Some of the people even contacted me later and told me that they appreciated me talking to them and giving them advice, because it had helped them. That's what it's all about, spreading God's word and helping others. Church is important I think, but God said where two is gathered in my name I am there also. So just continue to believe, pray and spread the word to others. Thanks for this discussion.

Going to the church is ,to some extent, just a matter of form.Actually,as long as you have the belief, you can pray everywhere at any time.Don't let going to church become your burden and just take it easy.Just as you said ,"God is everywhere".As a prayer, the most important thing is piety.Although I don't need to go to church,I usually pray in my own way.

Hi,
Being a Roman Catholic, I made it a point to attend church every Sunday, that was before when things were not piling up. Now that I can bring home my work due to the advent of computers, Sundays became work days too. If I am not at the desktop, I find myself staying in the vicinity of it, resting my tired eyes and booting up again when rested enough.
From a Sunday-holic to a workaholic that's what has become of me. Now, I only go to church on Christmas days and other major holidays of obligations.

I don't take it as an obligation to always go to mass on Sundays. Even my husband, i don't obligate him to come with me to church every Sunday.
I always go to church on Sunday, because it's my only rest day from work. I see to it that i will attend the mass every Sunday because i want it to be my sort of Thanksgiving for giving us still a chance to enjoy life and a sort of asking again for his blessings for the next days to come.
I feel incomplete if i haven't gone to church on Sunday.
Although, i always pray in the morning upon waking up and at night before going to bed, or at any moment i feel like praying, i still would always like to go to church on Sunday because i feel happy doing it.

I grow up attending church every Sunday and I think my life is not complete if I don't hear any mass or sermons. Honestly, I get bored at sermons too and at times I want to leave the church while a program is conducted and find someone to chat with outside. I leave the church now because the church turns discriminating now and no one is inviting me to important ministries and all I just seem to see is I am an spectator of church celebrities. It's no use because I love the Lord and I am bored of sitting and listening in churches. Boring.

No, I don't as I am Hindu and not Christian.
But, I do go to Shirdi Sai Baba temple every Thursday evening. I don't feel god of any religion has ever told the devotees to visit Temple, Church, Mosque or any other place of worship, to worship god. It is our belief. One can stay back at home and do the prayer, there is nothing wrong in that.

I have a busy life sometimes I am tired but this shouldn't be an excuse to exclude myself of going to church. So my family and I make it a point of going to the church every Sunday. I feel better whenever I go to church specially Sunday. I feel like my week is complete and protected. Hence, more blessings for me. But its just me though, I am speaking base on my experience. People has different views and approach to their faith. This also makes my family closer to each other and closer to God. It's not just us individual but as family.
