Cooking for yourself and buying at fast food chains have their own pro's and cons. But with these two, which is really better? I know that anyone has their own ideas about the positive and negative effects of each but during different situations that are given usually in our daily lives, which would most fit a person like me who has an appetite who changes from time-to-time? For you, what would suit you? And any suggestions on what are the best meals to prepare for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Same here pahak627. I know that it may sound bad but you really have no choice if you're outside like in the malls or so. But having a packed lunch or any home made food might be a good idea too.

I see. But we have no choice right? We need to make time just for food preparations. And i think this would really be beneficial for us. So lets just pack some food :).

I always make food from scratch and I have found out that my stomach aches when I go to a fast food chain (very seldom). When I go out for diner, it is because one of my friends invite me, and we go to the best restaurants in town. They are repaying in a measure my invitations to homecooked gourmet food -i make for them. Fortunatly, I have never had to eat in fast food chains as a way of living.

I guess that the fact that I can make very yummy food from inexpensive ingredients makes it absurd to spend a lot more on expensive food that I don`t like.

Buying foods on fast food chains will indeed be convenient because as the word indicates it's fastly done. However, the downside is that they are mostly unhealthy, because they are laden with fats and cholesterol.
Yes, cooking food for yourself is better. But somehow it is tiring because with you alone eating it. You can just buy foods already cooked but you have to make sure that they are healthy, like they have veggies , fish or meat, but not fried or laden with cholesterol.

Cooking yourself is way better, healthier. In fast food are many chemicals used plus ingredients which are far of healthy. A positive thing about cooking your own food is you know what you eat plus you are busy preparing it (which can be relaxing as well). If you have a lack of time you can also prepare some more for the next day or days you have less time. In my country it's a custom to have bread or (different kinds of) porridge. Plus tea (some have coffee). Some have fresh juice as well. A part of the people will have cereals or fruit with or without yoghurt. Lunch was years ago our cooked/hot meal, nowadays many people do not have time to cook because of their jobs so it's bread (with cheese, meat, peanutbutter or chocolate etc on it, kids take their own lunch to school, many adult to the same to their job) sometimes with fruit. So dinner is the cooked meal. It can be a soup, or rice, to many it's: potatoes, vegetables and some meat/fish. At 10am it's coffee-break (kids fruit), at 4 pm it's tea break (drinking no eating), after the last meal between 7-8 pm many people drink coffee or tea. Personally I eat when I feel hungry. I think it's way more healthy plus I can't eat early in the morning. I tried it for a long time but I do not have less energy if I don't eat early (7 am or earlier) at all plus I also don't eat/snack less through the whole day if I skipp that. For your digestions it's better to have dinner as early as possible since the digestion of that takes way longer.
If we did eat more one day (for example because of a birthday) we eat less next day. The cooked meal can be a soup for example.

I prefer to buy in fast food rather than cook at home. First of all, it's less effort and time. And assured that it's delicous.

Thanks for dropping a comment. I agree with that but do you ever think about the nutritional content. Or even the long term effects of always eating fast food?

I love cooking but I love to rest more.lol. I am living independently and I do not have much time to cook for myself. I hate to go to market and buy some ingredients for the specific menu. It is very costly too so I preferred to eat to fast food chains. No hassle in preparing foods. But during my rest days, I find to cook at least my talent in cooking will be refreshed. lol

It had been many years, since my parents are down with illnesses, we prefer to home-cooked our meals. i think it is more healthy to eat home-cooked meals than eating out. Besides that, when we cooked our own meals, it can helps us saved more in the long-run. We can always use the extra money which being saved for other purposes. We are trying our best to cut-down the consumption of the MSG. Because at home, we don't use MSG in our cooking.

For me ever since, even if I have a regular job, I always prepare and cook my own packed lunch and when dinner I still have time to prepare my dinner. And now I have a family with 2 children I still cook our food. We seldom buy on fast food it is not because it was too expensive but their are those fast foods that re cook or re heat the food they are serving. And we have no idea how many times they do that. ^_^ So to avoid sickness I avoid my family to frequent eating on fast foods.
For me I do prepare egg for breakfast and everyday I always buy pandesal. for lunch I want to cook Tinolang manok or adobong manok. And on dinner I would love to prepare the Kare kareng gulay or vegetable. I like my menu for dinner to be light because our body is not active at night we just sleep. Hope you'll like my menu for the day!^_^
Happy eating

If your the type of person that has a pretty tight schedule, then fastfood's are good alternatives. However, you should limit eating it in a constant meal since we all know that fastfood meals are not that healthy. It's also good to learn some recipes and cooking it on your own in a way it lets you explore your kitchen and your cooking skills.

Yeah I totally agree. And I'm that type of a person. But what's good in knowing some recipe's of your own is that, that could be a source of income too. The thing I learned here is DISCIPLINE. You can never resist something so convenient if you can't discipline yourself.

I prefer cooking. Fast food is expensive and have lower quality of food, in terms of nutritional content. Fast food is delocious because they are full with preservative ingredients. Most of the time, they are very oily (deep fried). It just very recently that fast food pay attention to health, by making a healthy choice. But most fast food is just greasy, cheap quality food, but they are expensive. Why? Because they make from a low quality product. So compare to cooking yourself, it is actually expensive. With the same price, we can get better quality of food because there is no profit margin involved. Food industry profit margin is at least 100%. Once a while is ok, but not for daily consumption. I only go to fast food when I am in rush and can't cook. If I go out, then I go to restaurant. I can even remember when is the last time I buy McDonalds, maybe 4 years ago?

Yeah you're absolutely right. I noticed that long ago where the oil from fries, chicken, burgers are still there. Even with the thought of that as bad for your health, we cant really resist eating such flavorful dish. And wow, 4 years without mcdonalds? Can't imagine that to myself.

yes cooking is good, but how can you say that it is better than buying? Is it because of the cost? is it because of the taste reference? This is because there's a lot of factors that may can affect both. What do you think?

I prefer to cook for myself though I am not a good cook and I hate cooking but still I want to cook like veggies and meat. Cooking for myself is healthy for me than on fast food chain. The positive effects of fast food is that it gives us access to cheap and convenient food. Even though we know it is unhealthy but because of it's affordability, taste and convenience we still make it a part of our diet almost every chance we get. The negative effects is, it's lacking in nutritional value as it is rarely made of fresh fruits, vegetables or whole grains. Every time we consume fast food, we are missing out on essential vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy. Processed foods and meats are not healthy.

Thank you for your response. I totally agree to what you said. But there are certain times that you're in a rush of things and even though you love to cook for yourself you tend to just rush out and food the fast way.

I would always suggest cooking for oneself but at the same time I must admit that it is very troublesome to cook regularly for oneself.

It all depends. Of course cooking ourself is better. Eating at fast food chain doesn't meant unhealthy because there are a lot of healthy choice nowadays.
Why cooking ourselves if better? You said you are the one that change appetitie from time to time. Fast food chains didn't give you much variety if we demand constant change. They sell the same things everyday all the time. By cooking ourselves, we can have a lot of variety of dishes without spending a lot of money. There are a lot of recipe nowadays available on the internet and TV. The variety are so huge that it will take forever to finish all the recipe available. So you got your variety there.
In term of economy, cooking ourselves will be cheaper. I'm from Malaysia so if I want to eat western food outside, it will cost me 2 times more than when I cook it myself. You know the restaurant always charge more than the food cost them in order to earn profit.
Meal suggestion? You can always refer on the net for the meal that will suit your diet and appetite.

I think cooking for oneself is much better although it requires hard work and time. Fast foods has a lot of calories in it and it is not at all healthy. Many people complains about their weights but still eat junk foods rather than preparing their own meals and snacks.
But like I said, it takes times and above all a lot of patience.

For saving time usually fast food better since you don't need to prepare it yourself and they served fast too, but I think it won't do any good for your health if you consume it constantly. So if you concerned with your health of course you will need to eat healthily which means you need to cook it yourself. You can try to cook easy meals but nutritious like sauted vegetables, chicken vegetables soup, fried egg, fried rice with vegetables, and variety of fruits for dessert.
