How google Pakistan was Hacked

Yesterday when tried to open Google page in Pakistan I was surprised to see defacement page of Turkish hackers.It looks to me that registrar that was responsible for the Google DNS records may have been compromised and record have been changed.So when user try to access the Google they were directed to different website setup by the Turkish hackers. Where they have their defacement page.
