Undoubtedly, women are hook up with fashion nowadys. However, the better quality of clothes ,the more expensive they are and it cannot be denied that not everyone ca.n afford good quality clothes. Therefore, other people prefer to buy secondhand clothes , in our place it is locally known as "ukay ukay " where people dig in the pile of clothes and find precious gems! and I admit I am one of them. Yes, I can't help not to buy everytime I Have the chance to go to the vintage shop. There are so many cool stuffs and more fashionable items in the vintage shop and they are very affordable. Mostly come from famous brands and when I wear it, I feel so fabulous.

Count me as one. I am really fond of ukay ukay too. Even on online there are lots of them selling ukay ukay items.Well i just found it more unique and most of the ukay ukay has the best quality than those of the local stuff on the mall. All of my clothes i wear on the office are just secondhand and i am not ashamed of that.

Wow! good to know that you like it too. I think it's a lot practical to buy "ukay ukay " since fashion always change from time to time ,so we tend to use clothes once only.Isn't that waste of money? that is why I am thankful that there are so many vintage shop to look for fashionable clothes. :)

Yes practical indeed! I also encourage some of my office mates to sometimes go with me to have an ukay ukay, but some of them didn't have interest on it, and they said they feel ashamed going on such places.WEll i cannot force them to go, but for me,i really enjoy buying stuffs with them. And i am thankful that i am not alone in this kind of stuff.

Cheers for us Jeztrose! what matter is that we would not feel guilty because we don't spend too much money for just a dress or a corporate attire. Would they imagine a blazer, which is use in the office, would cost 1000 pesos in the specialty store is only 100 to 250 pesos in "ukay-ukay" and sometimes the brand is Zara. Yeah! I got one from Zara and it's only 250 pesos. :D A bandage skirt from Mango that is 100pesos and a lot more. I am glad that I am thrifty! :)

I've heard from friends how they could find clothes at one-tenth of the price of new ones. A lady friend of mine had actually bought a Lacoste shirt for 300 Php, and it was in very good condition. She saw the same shirt at the mall and its priced at 2,500 Php. Now that was a really great buy But I'm not really into this. If I want to buy a branded product, I'd save for it. It's my way of giving myself a gift for my hard work

Without a doubt, it feels good to buy something so dear for yourself to pay off your hardwork. It increases self-esteem and a good outlet once one is depress. Even myself , I always crave to buy something branded especially if I have the finacial resource.

It is very ironic sometimes, when you need something to shop for, that stuff is very difficult to find. However, if you don't intend to buy, many things would come out. That is why, we buy a lot unexpectedly. Therefore we have to be careful sometimes on our buying habits.

I love secondhand bags but not clothes or shoes. I think clothes and shoes are more personal, those stuffs get direct contact with someone else's skin. Don't forget to look at the sleeves if you buy used clothes, sometimes they have perfume's marks that won't be spotted at first place. Good luck .

You are right, you never know who may have used those second hand clothes but not every skin disease is transferable through clothes especially since these items are disinfected before they are transported. second, the detergents nowadays used for washing clothes posses disinfectant properties. besides, second hand clothes should be washed thoroughly before use or else the "salvation Army" would have ceased selling these hand-me-down clothes in the US, Canada and elsewhere...

Yes you can actually save money buying second hand clothes and stuffs but be careful because body odor causing bacteria and other parasites are transferable by clothing. Just wash the clothes properly or boil them, and you are good to go. Good day

Definitely , before wearing them , they need to be washed properly and iron them to make sure that you get rid of those bacterias. Some people are not aware of this until they experienced such horrible skin problems. I think self-awreness is really the key for staying safety . :)

Me too! I am excited to go shopping for the holidays. I can't wait to dig in more clothes and search for signature brands. I may sound crazy but yes I would really do it. Anyway, do you know good shops that really sell fashionable but very affordable? because some shops if they know their items are in, then they tend to increase the price.

Hello chatoang! yes I'm from Davao City. I am a 27 year old lady who loves to go shopping, I bet every woman does! , but I am thrifty. I usually go to Dona Segunda where I can find great secondhand clothes and mostly are branded. The downside is that it's a bit costly since most of their goods are srlected and the ambience of the stores are botique like, good thing they are aircondioned . How about you? where do you usually shop?

I'm not sure what ukay ukay is. The second hand shops have their clothes on clothing racks at any of the ones I've been to. I have found some real nice items for very low price. My favorite one to go to is called the goodwill store. In town we have two consignment shops but I dont shop at them they are more pricey.

Hello shaggin! nice to hear your response here. "ukay-ukay" is something that is acquired after being used by another, in short it is seconhand. I have also heard the Goodwill store because my friends would shop there also, and they give good feedback of the stuffs that they buy like the price and the quality. I would always envy at them if they tell me they got Calvin Klein jacket for only four times lower of the original price. We have so many shops here selling secondhand but it is very rare to find gems, so it really needs patience sometimes. :)

I have a friend who buys second hand clothes and she turns them into something different. My friend takes jeans and if they do not fit her she turns the jeans into a tote bag or a purse. My friend is able to turn old clothes and make them new. I am now going to learn how to sew so I can do things with old clothes.

My sisters in law and I would also be going to such stores coz we can find a lot of pretty clothes most especially dresses from either Japan or Hong Kong. The clothes from that store doesn't look old or worn out and so sometimes we would be bringing home about 8-10 pcs of clothes each ! Such great bargain! If you'd buy them in stores, we could be spending almost ten thousand pesos, but with that store, we would just be spending about three thousand pesos instead.

We maybe living in the same place. Baguio probably where the Ukay-ukay or wag-wag is bountiful. With a lot of compatriots who have the love for imported-item-mentality, they love shopping for that kind since they come from abroad and cheaper at that than the brand new locally manufactured.

Hi mauie!
Yes! I am also buying clothes and other things from second hand shop. Actually, there are times that my neighbor would bring clothes to my house so that I could choose the one I like before they bring it to the store. Yesterday, when I cam home, my husband told me that he also bought me a new polo blouse from second hand shop. When I've seen the blouse, wow! very pretty! Actually, the quality of these items from second hand are quite good and the price is really affordable.

Hello Aries! I'm happy that you also appreciate buying such stuffs. Actually you can really search so much gems in those pile of clothes. The moment you find something weird, you can just altered a bit then viola! it'll turn to a fabulous stuff. For instance , I bought a vintage dress, the size is very big for me, I may look weird if I try on but I super like the color and the prints because it's floral and very classy. So what I did, I bought that dress and went to my neighbor who owns a sewing machine then I instructed her to do some alterations. Afterwards, I was surprised for the transformation and I am happy that it fits me better and I feel so fashionista because of the vintage look.

Thrifting is such a fad this generation! Since most likely items that are sold from thrift stores have lots and lots of garments that had age for generation to generation. In fact, some fashion trend setters, style bloggers, fashion and independent stylists have inspired or made a look out of shear secondhand garments. The good thing about second hand or thrift shops is that they sell items from past eras such as 70’s and 80’s which did take great contribution in the new trend of styling. Vintage garments sold in thrift shops are also one unique item since you can hardly find them on any other shops.

I would rather buy clothes from a second hand store than at a discount store. At the discount store, the clothes are cheaply made and just don't last. At the second hand store, I can often find top quality clothes that still are in good shape. Sometimes I can even find brand new clothes. Recently I bought a handbag brand new that I later found out the retail price is about $60. I paid $10 at the the second hand store for this handbag. Once clothes are washed, no one can tell the difference whether you bought them new or at a vintage store. I refer to shopping at second hand store - shopping at my boutiques!

Yeah. There are many secondhand shops here in our country. We can buy imported clothings, bags, shoes, etc. from these shops. I guess we are lucky because we can buy them cheaply. Some are expensive especially those aren't unused yet but the price is still cheap than their original price abroad. I like buying in these secondhand shops. They sell good items with good qualities and reasonable prices.

Good for you, some people don't buy second hand clothes, little they know of some of the clothes in "ukay ukay" were new ones and most runs from company. If only the ukay ukay clothes fit me, but they are too little, if big, too big. I shop for second hand bags though and it surely still in good condition. Just be too careful and choosing the items. Cheers for us.!!!
