I really just love coffee! I mean whenever I see a coffee shop I feel like I need to go and get some coffee! I mean I can't really drink it that often because it makes me jittery and nervous, which is kind of weird. Does that happen to anybody else? I usually seem to crave coffee at night too which is the worst time because then i cant drink it unless i plan on being up all night! What about you guys?

Here's something I've noticed about chain store coffee versus home ground and percolated coffee: The chain store (Tim Hortons, in particular) has coffee that makes me feel jumpy, unfocussed, and even paranoid. I literally get high! (What I know of getting high from the usual literatue :D).
BUT, when I make coffee at home with beans from the store - any unflavored generic kind of beans - I have no reaction like that. It'll take two to four cups to make me feel "like my brain is shivering". Even when I add too much sugar. I'll talk faster, be more hyper, but the effect doesn't give me a hangover like the chain's drink.
I'm a little scared about what they put in their blend to make everyone think they have the best drinks in Canada... because quality-wise, it is pure doo.

If you're going for turkish, you want a small pot with handle. There are specialty makers out there that work the best. Have the water hot when you add the extremely fine ground coffee beans, then put it over the heat and it boils up into a foam, then take it off the heat to calm down, then do it 2 more times. It's something you really have to do a bunch to get it just right, but it's a delicious drink when you do get it right ;)

I haven't tried home ground before, but I guess I could give it a go if it is more cost efficient. I will have to look into it because I love coffee but I don't drink it for the effects because I really don't have any effects. I'm sure that home ground must be better for you in some way.

I am a coffee-lover too and it doesn't make me jittery or nervous. There are times when if I've had too much I would have difficulty breathing and then I'd stop for a few days then I'll come back to coffee again. I can't permanently stop myself from drinking coffee.

It doesn't scare me much because I thought it's only natural to feel like that when drinking too much coffee. But I think yes I should check in with a doctor. I don't feel difficulty in breathing whenever I stop coffee for a few days.

difficulty breathing sounds horrible! I would check in with a doctor about that. That's odd. I've never heard of that problem associated with coffee before. I understand though, coffee is addicting.

I'm actually not to sure, I've never heard of that happening to anyone else. Just to be safe I would check in the doctor. Best of luck!

I really enjoy coffee. My husband and I feel similar too you. We enjoy going to coffee shops we don't get to do that often though. It really does add up. I know at our local coffee shop for a grande (20 oz) it cost $4.65. So if we did that every week it would add up pretty quickly. I guess we could do it every now and then for date night but we often end up just going out for dinner instead since we get more that way.
Welcome to mylot. I hope that you enjoy your time hear. It such a great place. I'm happy that I was able to find it.

I really wish coffee wasn't so expensive. Although, if there's a coffee shop that has some really good coffee and it's a little expensive, it's nice to treat yourself every once in awhile. Going out for coffee for date night sounds quite nice every once in awhile. You could both drink something you enjoy and have a nice conversation. I always think coffee shops have a nice comfortable feeling to them. Thank you for the welcome!

We should go to get coffee for date night some time.We just haven't had the money to do date night this month yet. Hopefully we will have it so we can get some coffee. I agree with you about the atmosphere of a coffee shop. We usually play checkers. They have a checkers/chess game there.

DRinking coffee for sometime is not bad, but don't drink it more often coz it is bad for your health. I sometimes feel nervous when i drink coffee,i think it is just one of the disadvantages it has. So better not to drink it if you feel like something is wrong.

I like it every once in awhile, if I'm craving it at night though I wont drink it though because then I'll be awake all night. It is a really nice pick me up in the morning though. It might just be perfect if it didn't have that nervous effect. Good advice though, if I start to feel really bad I'll stop drinking it.

That's amazing that you own a cafe and coffee house! I've always wanted to have my own little cafe. I use to have a teacher that drank that much coffee. She always had so much energy!

very true, maybe I should just drink a little bit when I drink it. Then I can enjoy it without the bad side effects!

I'm not really a big coffee fan. I only drink one cup (even half of it only) in the morning. I know some people are addicted to it but I'm not. Whenever I see coffee shops my mouth does not water and I do not feel the urge to get inside. Coffee is just not my cup of tea.LOL

I know someone that use to bring it to school every morning, and if she didn't have any she would freak out. I like to switch it up between coffee and tea every once in awhile though. I really like the Bigelow vanilla chai tea. Its wonderful.

Oh coffee, i don't drink coffee :)
I used to drink coffee when i was a kid but i stopped when i started highschool. I don't know why, but i just don't like drinking it anymore. hehe..
Regarding being nervous after drinking coffee, i think it's the effect of the caffeine (but not really sure about that). I also had that experience when i was still drinking coffee. Also, surely you'll have a hard time sleeping when you drink coffee and that's for sure :)

That's odd, I use to drink a lot of coffee when I was younger, then I stopped for awhile, it was kind of like I just stopped liking it. Although, later I had a cup of coffee somewhere along the way and got hooked to it. Must've been that specific coffee that made me love it again :) Well, at least if I have a lot of work to do one night, I can rely on some coffee to keep me awake!

Drinking to much coffee, or anything with substantial amounts of caffeine, will make you jittery. If you drink coffee way too much your heart may go into arrhythmia. Of course, this happens if one drinks colossal amounts in a very short period of time.

I'll make sure not to drink too much at one time then! That would be pretty bad. Hopefully I don't pass a really cheap coffee shop any time soon!

Thanks for sharing this discussion. In my case i crave for coffee in the afternoon. I just don't know why but i like it cold than warm. But the only thing about coffee that i hate is the after effect. Can't sleep, busy stomach, palpitations.

If it's really warm and stuffy, a nice iced coffee is the best! I can't sleep for awhile after drinking it though either.
