I guess its that time of the year again. Once again I'm feeling a little under the weather. I've been sneezing all day and my nose is switching between runny and stuffy every few hours. It's horrible going to school like this because every time I sneeze I feel like everyone turns around and looks. Thank god I keep hand sanitizer and tissues on me. All I really want though is a nice big bowl of soup. It always makes me feel better. I know its said that chicken noodle soup always helps with colds, but does anyone know of a better soup to help me?

I do not know of anything that is "better" per say. But any soup with lots of vegetables would be good since they have antioxidants. Rice is said to be very good for you too especially when you are not feeling well. Maybe a nice chicken rice soup would work!

Sorry to hear your not feeling well now. I like a soup with lots of noodles, so sometimes I make double noodle soup. People usually say chicken noodle, but I'm more likely to have my homemade tomato soup now. Homemade soups always make me feel better faster.

Awww, hope you feel better soon. Actually, it doesn't really matter what soup you eat, it's the steam that makes you feel better. It helps open up the nostrils and clear the airways..not so much because it's chicken soup. It can be beef soup, tomato soup, split pea soup...doesn't matter..it's the steam.
It's sort of like having a humidifier right under your nose, which is something that helps too. So, eat your favorite soup and drink your favorite tea..the cold will still go through its normal course, but you'll feel a little better because of the steam.

Thank you! I guess the best thing to do is eat some of my favorite soup, drink some vanilla chai tea, and then take anice hot shower. Thank you for the info!

Well, it's true that chicken soup always known to helps with colds, it's because of the chicken essence in it, a study have tried it with vegetables soups minus chicken and it's said not as good as if the soup contain chicken. So I think it's better to have chicken soup. You can try ginger as well. You can boil the ginger and add honey in it, it's warm and helpful with cold as well. Or you can try to drink lemon and honey to help to soothe your throat and nose.

I've never tried ginger to help with colds, it sounds delicious though! Tea with lemon and honey is good too. I never knew chicken soups help more than any others though, thanks for the info!

Chicken noodle is my second favorite flu season soup; my very favorite is lentil soup (brown or yellow). It should be very liquid, with a good broth (chicken or ham stock), and about a tablespoon of hot sauce. I can't express how much I love hot sauce - I even take spoonfulls of it when I start feeling under the weather. But the acidity of hot sauce in lentils does something heavenly. Oh, finely chopped onions and garlic or garlic powder are super in it, too.

My mom talks about lentil all the time, but I'm not exactly sure what it is because Ive never tried it. I completely understand you're love for hot sauce. I put it on just about everything. Thank you for the advice!

tomato soup actually sounds like a really good idea right now! Although you're probably right about the temperature, I don't think cold soup really helped anybody :)
