I had not known till now that there are two types of fibres that play different roles in our system. And not eating food that contains fibres can cause serious health issues. This link here clearly explains everything one needs to know about fibres. http://www.webmd.com/diet/fiber-health-benefits-11/compare-dietary-fibers I am now on my way to making a change in my diet! And you too?

Due to some changes in my body over the last year or two I have been making some changes in my diet. I believe I get all of the differnt kinds of fiber mentioned except the one bulking agent that is also used as a sugar substitute. I find that by having such a variety I am in a much better shape.

We might be eating the right stuff but nothing like knowing what does what to us. I find this link extremely useful and I am going to make use of it. I have been lax of late with regard to my cholesterol levels and soluble fibre will take care of it, hopefully.

I just use a fiber supplement. Not that I need it all the time or take it all the time. But it does help from time to time. I eat plenty of veggies but don't eat fruit, and sometimes you just need a little boost to keep the pipes working right.

@porwest The difference between potatoes and sweet potatoes is that sweet potatoes have sweetness.

@allknowing I can't do sweet potatoes. They were just never my thing. Regular potatoes? Yep. All day. But I just can't get sweet potatoes down.

I always thought why oatmeal was so highly recommended when fruits could serve the purpose. Now I know why!

Hi, Thank you very much for this link. What i know about Fiber: Fiber is the most important for proper functioning of our system. Fiber works best on dietetic and help them to control sugar levels Fiber gives feeling of fullness and that helps to eat less and control weight. Mainly complex carbohydrate foods are good source of natural fiber, plus fiber is available in good amount in fruits and vegetables.

I am not a diabetic but did try Flax seeds for the muscle discomfort one experiences now and then. One side effect of Flax seeds is that it bloats the stomach as it swells in there, followed by flatulence. I tried it for some time and then gave up.

You know something i love to explore on health related topic and keep searching for natural things. That time my mom got detected with diabetics and just to help my mom i come across Psyllium husk and Flex Seeds. That is available in natural and flavored one, and after taking daily one tsp before every meal she showed lot of improvement in health.

Yes I agree that fiber in diet is very beneficial for body.Fiber rich diet helps in evacuation of bowel and really helpful for them who are suffering from bowel hardening. It also prevent postprandial(after meal) glucose elevation and beneficial for diabetic patient. So try to avoid junk and oily food and have more fibrous food to stay healthy.
