Tablets, iPads,iPad mini, mobile phones are today's latest technology because of their touchscreen features, not to mention the cool apps. But I wonder why Apple didn't make touchscreen Macbook products. Other laptops manufacturer are not making touchscreens products.

I think touch screen laptop are pretty popular still. But I think it only applies to those laptops that are small and detachable. What I mean by detachable is you can use it like a tablet separately. Some examples are like the Slate PC and ATIV PC. I am not sure about MAC laptop.

I am not interested in the touchscreen laptops. As they are still bigger compares to the tablets and therefore it is not convenient to use it. Unless you are playing some games, then probably a touchscreen laptop is fine. It is just like a touchscreen TV. I feel strange how it will be created because the fingerprints will make the TV screen dirty. Besides, I can use the remote control when I am sitting in the sofa, isn't it much more comfortable than going in front of the TV screen to press the button?

There have been some manufacturers before who have tried selling touch screen laptops, but these weren't exactly market successes. One of the reasons is that they have problems with their usability -- or, how easy a person could do something with it. Since the laptop screen has been designed to be interacted on using other peripheral devices, i.e., keyboard and mouse, it is still much faster using it using these same devices. It's actually a lot more frustrating if you need to touch the screen every now and then just to do what you want -- a keyboard is much faster. The fact is, we don't really need to add a feature to a certain piece of technology just to make it innovative or marketable. Touch screen technology isn't something that laptops would need, at least as of this point.

Personally, I think why Apple didn’t come up to the idea of making a Mac-touchscreen prototype is that if they will make up such technology, the market for the iPad will definitely make low sales. And for the record that the iPad is by far more affordable compared to Mac. Touch-screen technology is definitely hitting the mainstream market but some consumers don’t have that much money to buy over a new technology that enables a laptop and a tablet rolled into one so it is not that much “consumer friendly” I disagree with you that there are no manufacturers that makes up such technology. In fact, there are new hybrid laptops in today’s market that has the capacity of a tablet and a computer rolled into one. But they are somewhat not budget friendly I must say. Computer manufacturers such as Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Sony Vaio, and Asus has new laptops lined up that has touch-screen tablet convertible technology. But it does not hit the mainstream market yet since they are far pricey compared to a tablet computer. If you want to look for them you can find these models as reference: Dell XPS 12 Dell Convertible XPS Ultrabook Convertible Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Convertible Tablet Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Sony VAIO Duo 11 Hybrid Ultrabook Convertible ASUS Taichi ultrabook

I believe that it is because adding touchscreen technology to laptops would make it more expensive and less salable. However, with Windows 8 now available, I think having a touchscreen laptop is becoming the best option for this operating system. I for one would love the new Sony Vaio Windows * touchscreen tablet/laptop. It works like a tablet but with a keyboard. The design is so sleek and the specs is really just awesome. how I wish I could afford one or get one as a gift this Christmas. Oh dear Santa, you know I've been good.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are right the craze for the touchscreens products is on a rise and i think the reason why touchscreen laptops are not introduced is because it would be very difficult to carry a laptop having touchscreen facilities. When so much care is being taken when we are carrying a touchscreen cellphone then a touchscreen laptop would require even more care and attention. What say?
