Christmas gift - A gift for my daughter

We all agreed that only the kids will be getting a Christmas gift. Last night my daughter in California send me a message on fb with a link to a remote control that she needs to watch tv since she doesn't have cable and this will help her watch movies on tv and her pc. When I first saw it I thought "oh no I can't afford this" and felt bad because she never asks for anything and her birthday is the 19th of this month too. So, I checked the link and it was only $5.99 plus 4.00 shipping. I know I don't have enough money in my savings/checking account so I checked my Paypal account and had enough plus $3 to spare! I immediately bought it and I'm just so happy that I could get it for her. She is the only audult getting a gift from me and it's also going to cover me for her birthday so all I have to do now is send her a Birthday card. I just woke up so happy this morning because I did that. Have you ever had anything like this happen to you? Have you ever given a gift to someone you weren't planning too?

Yes I've given to someone I wasn't planning on. But I have to say, that was so very, very nice of you to do, being so broke. What a sweetheart. And something like that comes so much from the heart, it just makes you feel wonderful! I hope something special happens to you without you expecting it.

Yes, it's very seldom I can help my kids financially in fact this daughter put $50 in my Paypal account a few months ago when I was having a bad end of month. My kids never ask me for anything and I'm so happy to help when I can...their all good kids.

I have been in the same financial situation like some months ago. I went to department store to buy some stuffs when I saw 50% discount of hair iron which I don't have, so right away I am calculating everything I need to buy, when it seems like I don't have enough, I checked my wallet and there I found 10 dollar bill and went staright to change it.. Then I got my hair iron which now I seldom use...hahahaa

lol...isn't that the way it goes! We buy something we think we want and then not use it!

Not exactly like in your situation, but quite similar in some way. It was when I was planning to get my mom something a bit expensive for a Christmas gift, but I was short on funds which was partly my fault. I spent on something that wasn't in my budget. But to my surprise, a friend who owed me money paid me. I wasn't really expecting it, being the Christmas season and all. I guess sometimes God intervenes with trivial things like this.

Yes, that was awesome of your friend especially at Christmastime. God does intervene when we least expect it.

Well we don't celebrate christmas with gifts but ofcourse I recognize the situation you describe. Last year I had kind of same situation and was happy I had a bit of money on my paypal. I seldom use it but can tell you it is a happy moment if you want to give something and you do have that bit of extra. So I "save" the money over there for these kind of occasions.

It's very hard for me to save any money since I"m on social security and get a small check every month that I need to pay rent and bills with. The only way I can afford gifts and extras is with the money or points I earn online.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i am so glad to hear that u have finally got a surprise gift for your daughter and i am sure after seeing that gift her joys would know no bounds. I know initially it was a bit tough decision for u to take but since she is the only child of yours, u had to change your mind and put her happiness on priority first. I wish her happy birthday in advance and wish all the happiness on this earth be hers. What say?

It happens a lot, sometimes there are people we seem to overlook during seasons like this. Sometimes people we are not planning to give gifts don't just talk but they are deep inside them expecting to receive something from even just a simple one showing them that we remember them. Thanks for posting this one, a good reminder on my part.

My kids never ask anything of me because they know I live on a very small limited income. I'm so happy I could do this for her.

That was very kind of you and I am sure your daughter is appreciative, I think it's wonderful when they know you have limited funds they don't expect to receive presents, it means they are caring, thoughtful and understanding. It also gives you a sense of satisfaction and as you said you woke up happy because of your thoughtfulness. I always think a gift no matter how small or how much it costs, it is always the thought that counts and when you know it's going to be used and not thrown to one side it's an even more appreciative gift.

I am glad you were able to get her something. You can wrap it up and give it to her and say it is for your Birthday even. It is nice to be able to do something nice for someone once in a while.

I think it's nice to give someone else something useful and fun for a gift, and it makes me happy when I can do that, no matter what time of the year it is. Of course, with Christmas and her birthday, you have excellent reasons to give some gift, and it's nice that it turned out so affordable.

That is so sweet of you In my case, i think I'm the one receiving the unplanned present. I remember a birthday, where no one wish me on that day. Well, i was living in boarding school at that time, my family did visited me with a cake later on the weekend. But on that day, I'm disappointed since no one even seems to remember my birthday. Then, before sleeping that night, a senior give me a bar of chocolate, saying that she feel like sharing it with me. I gladly accepted it, even if she might not meant to give it as present.

Yes, I always do that from the time that I had a job and the most benefited are my brothers. I love to give them a gift because they are not asking too much. They just wait what would I'll give to them. They do appreciate it a lot and because of that I am always fascinated to buy them gifts. But of course, with my mother too. My family are my priority and the first in my list of recipients. I feel very happy every time the gift from me was been given to them.

That is wonderful and nice. I'm sure your daughter is very happy. Yes, it happenesd to me as well when I gave this gift, and she thought it was something that she will return in time. I said, it was a gift and she was very happy too. It is a good feeling when you give to someone. It is true, that it is better to give than to receive.:-) God Bless

Yes quite a few times I had money left over and was happy about spending it for my daughters even that I was sure nothing would be left That is a great feeling

Yes this has happened to me before. I love giving others gifts. I do want a lot for myself but when it comes down to it, I would rather give to others. I love seeing people smiling and all happy when they get a gift especially when they never are able to buy for themselves because of all the bills that they have to pay. Your daughter will be very happy.

As a son I barely asked for anything from my parents especially at my age because I know that I should already be fending and tending for myself at this age and I no longer want to be a burden to them. I feel ashamed that I am still though, because I am still in college when I should have graduated five years ago and probably working now and helping them pay for my siblings school instead of them doing that for me. Anyway, during seasons like this, I always wish I had enough to give to my siblings and parents. I would like to give something special and useful to each of them especially to my parents as a sign of appreciation and love for all the hard work and care they have provided me. Unfortunately, I think this Christmas is not that day yet.
