Cofee Prince Cut Short -- another failure?

Too bad that this comedy-lovestory ended too soon. My daughter actually enjoyed watching this local soap. I didn't like it that much because I want to watch another show from the other network, but Im forced to stick with it, because of my little girl. I would allow her to watch it, since it doesn't have a lot of kissing scenes and it is a fun show. Usually a soap would last 2 months, but this didn't even reach a month. Have you seen this? What do you think made it fail? Is it the cast, the story, or just a big competition.

oh! is that so?well i watched the orginal korean version of coffee prince it was indeed cute and funny! maybe GMA are not really good on making soap opera, most of their movies are not that good and doesnt have a good rating.i guess it is better that they ended it soon coz it will be useless if they will continue it knowing that they have a very low ratings.

Yeah!! kapamilya has many good actor and actresses compared to kapuso. That is why most of the soaps on kapamilya hits.

And, they have brilliant writers giving good stories and roles for the artists to play. It's always a collaborative effort by all staff and artists.

There are actually good soaps I've watched on GMA, but ABS will always have something better. Plus, their castings are bigger.

I always watch coffee prince and disappointed because there are many cut on the story.

Is that so? I didn't quite notice. But, Im sure there were too many diversions from the original version, because they have to make it more Filipino-like.

Yup! If they want to revive korean drama into Filipino version. The director must not cut the original but make it more the same if possible to get the attention of the viewers.

It's probably not possible, because of the difference in culture. They can't remake a Korean scene that doesn't apply in Filipino setting.

From what I know it was a remake from a Koreanovela shown in the past. But I think it all have something about ratings. If the ratings not that good they would usually cut the show early on.

True. If the story becomes too predictable, and people don't watch it anymore, there's no point in doing a production.

Ratings mean everything for the network management. They don't get profit if sponsors don't pay and sponsors don't pay if there are no audience watching the shows.

I can't say that I'm sorry for the show and everybody involved in it. I'm not a soap fan and most definitely not a GMA fan. I watch very few of their shows, if I ever get to watch TV at all, because I mostly choose to be online than watch TV when I get the opportunity to. This just shows that their project was not that successful, so I hope that this would serve as a lesson to them. They like to make remakes of foreign shows and most of the time I find it unappealing and "korny". I hope this time they'll put more thought into it first before going on with their plan.

Not that I am being biased here but I just noticed and perhaps even many others as well, that stars or actors/actresses from ABS CBN are more famous and have more projects. I believe this is because the network is really putting a lot of effort and cash on projects to raise the image of their talents. To be fair though, there are actors and actresses that I like regardless of their network and I have some from all networks. As for soaps, as I have mentioned I am not really a fan but I do admit having watched some, and I find that some of the ones in ABS CBN are really better than on others. You are right though, about GMA more on fantaseryes. In that, they really excel.

I watch GMA shows more than ABSCBN, and I know that ABS has better drama oriented soaps. GMA is more effective with fantaseryes. They should utilize better talents, too.

I would have to agree with you on how the network manage their talents career. ABS CBN have bigger stars than other networks, and more of them, too.

GMA should think twice before making adaptations. Are they running out of writers who could think of fresh stories? They should not repeat the same mistakes they did with Coffee Prince. Look it flopped. Too bad for Kris and Aljur. This is suppose to be their reunion as loveteam but don't blame them. Coffee Prince is just a real bad choice for the two of them. You know, just like many others, I did enjoy the original Coffee Prince to the hilt. I would not mind sleeping late at all during those times it was being aired at GMA. It was really a cute story and I really so love that pretty, pretty, charming girl that played the part of Andy. (I don't even know her screen name/lol/.) But this Filipino adaptation that top-billed Kris and Aljur came too soon. How could GMA overlooked the fact that the original one is still very fresh in the mind of the viewing public. I myself was not even excited when I saw the trailer of the adaptation. Based on my own reaction I believed the many other fans of the original did feel the same and I was right. I noticed not much commercials when it was airing so I told myself I was right when I predicted it would flop. I gave it a try actually. But the first episode was so corny. It was truly corny in the real sense of the word. Do you remember that Beauty Pageant and how the contestants replied in the Q and A portion. It was so corny! There is nothing natural about the acting and even the script can't elicit laughter. How much more? Kris Bernal does not look good in that kind of character.Sorry to say that instead of being as cute as the original Any she ended up looking like retarded if not stupid. There is a very big difference between her and the original. Sorry to say that she could not match the charm of the original Andy. And we already know the ending of the story so why waste watching when the entire cast is not even that great. I'd rather just sleep than waste time in a recycled story. GMA has been recycling stories too soon. Even this "Temptation of the Wife" does not excite at all no matter how good the acting of the cast maybe. Who would be excited when you know already what will happen next? It is such a waste of time watching it as well. The original is always the best. I think they should rather wait for a new generation to come before they attempt to do adaptation or remakes again to avoid comparison. If GMA would continue this kind of adaptation I predict that they would be bankcrupt in a year or two. So GMA take it from me if you don't wanna be banckrupt and close-shop.

Salonga, enjoyed and appreciated every word. I really don't watch GMA anymore even if I had the chance to watch TV. My frustration is that like you said, it's mainly recycled plot. Recycled plots are sometimes the worst because it's hard to put a twist into a story already told (and even if it was popular). That's the reason why I'm inclined to watch the otehr station's shows (if I had the chance to wathc. Anyway, I'm waiting for drama that really drop some catchy quotes like in Magkaribal. I still love the 'You want war' bit. As much as GMA is good in terms of programming, there aren't really good and unique pieces on the table. There's no trend right now expect for GMA to rehash Koreanovela stories or import Korean dramas. As I'm not fan of both, I don't think I am switching channels soon.

You guys have good points. Thanks for sharing. I haven't seen the start of the soaps in ABS, so I'm kind of stuck in the running shows in GMA. Also, my daughter likes watching "Aso ni San Roque" and would insist on it. I would secretly change channels in the middle of the program, so I could watch "Ina, Anak, Kapatid." That's the only soap I got to see from the start, and I like it.

hi there, i have seen that soap though i am not a big fan of the stars inside of that show. the soap was really good. maybe the director just stick to the story line of the soap and not prolonged it since it is like a soap based on a korean theme. perhaps, they just let it as it is. then will just create another one eventually.

I don't think it was that short with the original soap which was korean. And, I believe the Korean version was a hit, that's why they made a Filipino version of it. Remember Aljur's previous soap, a remake of Machete was also a flap. I think his charms are really overrated.

i watched this tv series before but only as a download. i have not seen it in the tv shown in any of the networks. i guess since it was old, or a reply they had to cut it short. but i must admit this movie is sure very funny and light. =)

I assume that this is with the Kapuso network, because i am not aware of it. Had it been with the Kapamilya network, i would have seen it. So you mean it ended too soon? Well, it only means it gets less sponsors so they have to find for a better replacement.

Yes, I don't think it lasted a month. If I were Kris and Aljur, I'd be embarrassed.

I watched the original, Korean version and I was pleased. When the network announced a spin-off, i didn't really watched it since I don't want to held the same expectations as for the original. However, i have seen bits and I have to say that the original is still good. I think it is not exactly the same soap opera we're used to (the Mara Clara type where the plot goes on and on). it's an adapted Koreanovela so it's really short in comparison. Also, I have to say that the actors in the Korean series are prone 'comedy-like' rather than their Filipino counterparts. Well, just hold tight for another spin-off.maybe one is already in the works.

They have another one that is currently running, if that's what you're referring to. It's Temptation of Wife. I liked the Korean version a lot, but I'm not very happy with what they made from it for a Filipino version. I really don't like Marian Rivera's acting anymore, after that, "MyBeloved" show.

I don't like the Pinoy version of any Koreannovela because you know Pinoy loves drama so they convert the original script into a dramatic scene and its so predictable.

i didn't watched this show but Im familiar with the original version which is the korean version. I have read this on Yahoo OMG Philipines that it will only run for seven weeks and this is the original story of the show. GMA 7 were asking for extension but the Korean producers did not permit this because they are very strict with implementing of the original story.

Oh! I love coffee prince myself as well. I was sad too that it ended soon. I don't see it fails for the cast are really good actors and I know loads have liked it as well. It probably had been created for short time because... if you remember "HARAM" was not able to push through and so the needed some filling in soap, and now that they have another show in replacement of it, they needed to end coffee prince.
• Philippines
30 Nov 12
Oh, but if it went well with ratings, it'd be foolish for them to end it. Usually, if the show runs well, they would extend it. What happened was, they ran longer episodes during the last week so that it would end by Friday of that week. They really intended to end it sooner.

sometimes i watched this show.. and it is nice show and funny too how come they cut it off short.. maybe they are not getting the ratings they expected from it.. GMA should be more engaged in a very interesting story so that people will engaged to them and watched it... coffee prince has a light story maybe that`s the reason why people don`t really like it..

Especially if the competition is that stiff. The show from the other network is just way too strong for it. They should probably find better writers.

I never liked Coffee Prince even the korean version. I love korean shows but not that one. Maybe because I don't like stories of girls who dress up like boys and are never noticed because people actually think of them as boys? Now to remake it and place in a timeslot with strong rivals, I think it's not a surprise if it ends early. This happened to Machete before.
• Philippines

Perhaps if they got someone else for the role, it stood a better chance. But, yeah, I think the timeslot was also not the right fit.

The soap goes too good for me, I mean even though it ran just in weeks, they make it their best to level with the original one.
