In my culture, being defecated on by a bird just means it's time to change your clothes and/or take a shower. I wonder why some cultures consider it good luck. Maybe it has something to do with the low probability that a person will be in the path of bird droppings.
I've never been lucky enough to have a bird do its business on me (knock on wood), but when I was a kid my mom and a friend of hers took me to Sea World. They decided that we'd eat lunch there, so we got burgers and fries and sat down at one of the outdoor tables to enjoy our food. There were seagulls everywhere.
When I was about halfway done with my burger, one of the flying menaces swooped down and swiped the burger patty, the top half of the bun, and all of the toppings and condiments in between right out of my hands. Then, while we were all still sitting there staring in shock, one of his buddies came by and left a nice big present right in the middle of my mom's plate.

Hi Nero11,
Don't know what my culture says about luck with regards to bird poo but if I had bird poo on me it means that I had better go change my clothes and take a shower. I heard that bird poo can be hazardous to one's health. So I'm not taking any chances. Wonder what will people do when their culture tell them that bird poo is good luck. Do they keep the poo on their clothes and body for as long as possible so that they can stay lucky?

Hello Nero and welcome to myLot. I have not heard any thing about bird poo getting on you except that your lucky that elephants don't fly and they hit you with some poo. My granddaughter used to get hit with duck poo every time she went to the lake when she was little. She never thought of it as being lucky.

I considered it bad luck because last time some stupid bird had poop on my jacket and I had to go up to my house (I live in a condo) and get a cleaner one before the car arrive to fetch me to tuition. And I might miss the car if it arrive when I'm still in the house.

It is often said (almost everytime) in Romania. Like "OMG, a bird poo on me" "Lucky you, go and play the lotery". But nobody (almost) actually believes it. Like nobody (almost) believe it than a black cat that cross your way means bad luck. Just superstitions.

In my culture it means that the bird did not like where you were, or thought you looked like an attractive target. Nothing else.

Hahah that's really interesting. I have never heard it mean good luck here although we do have many superstitious beliefs. One I remember is when you see black ants crawling into your house out of nowhere, assuming that there was nothing anything sweet nearby, it means money is on the way. Probably this was connected to the fact that ants are hardworking animals.

I don't know where it is that says your lucky but to me that would be VERY unlucky! Lol, I don't want a bird pooping on me at all. Gross!

Yeah, in my culture when you had a bird poo on you it's indeed mean that you'll have a good luck. But I never experience it in my life. Wish that you have a good luck

In America, it's kinda a sign of bad luck. If someone is having a bad day, of course they get bird poo on them! Along with all other bad things!

That title made me laugh out loud.. :D. Yep, in North America, it generally means you've got muck on you. As a former owner of a cockatiel (they are one of the most adorable pets, by the way), I can tell you that bird poo means "clean it up before it stains, dries, and makes everyone sneeze from poo dust".

here in the US that would simply mean you are in a bunch of bird poop.. if you consider it lucky to have it there ..see how many agree by going through the day with it on;) . .its not good luck. .my opinion.

I think poo of any living creature is meant to be poo whether its a birds' or of some other.
And talking about good luck, I have to say no, don't know about other cultures but anyway I don't think poo of animals are related to good or bad luck, may be related to "bad luck" for some other people who believe in lucks :)
Have a nice day!
