This is actually a confidential matters yet needed to be disclosed for the awareness of the people. While people in the Philippines and in other major urban areas in the country are agog with the disclosures hidden accounts, wealth of the former Chief Magistrate, and with the revelations in social media of alleged hidden wealth of some of the top officials in the land, many constituents of the local politicians including the public are wondering why instances of large-scale corruption in their localities a re given a little attention to are totally ignored like the province of Mindanao and it's cities and municipalities. Last month of this year, constituent of a mayor in my municipality have confidentially shared a stories behind the corrupt ways of a partymate of the administration who is said to be the anathema to the latter's anti-corruption campaign. And I ask what is the gravity of the offense? He determinedly narrated all the details, and I have filled almost half of my notebook pad with notes on the large-scale corruption - as alleged - 9 ghost projects with millions of budget and kept almost to the mayor's self, non-existing projects awarded to his group of companies with dummies bearing Chinese-sounding names to make them appear like real businessman. The mayor almost "owns" every conceivable business there could be in the area - General Services, hardware, general merchandise that supplies the LGU's office requirements from computers to bond papers, generic pharmacies, convenience stores, function rooms where LGU meetings are held, security services, cockpit, piggeries and fish ponds. He has to said owned various bank accounts, at least nine vehicles including three luxury cars, and 5 utility pick-up vehicles. Many other's corruption acts are not to mentioned by the source. The campaign to fight against graft and corruption cannot rest on one shoulder alone. It should be proper collaboration by the government agencies and authorities, media people and the public could, hopefully, nail or at least strike fears in the heart of the corrupt.

Media really plays a very crucial part in exposing and apprehending corrupt officials. But sometimes I fear that even they aren't immune to corruption. I've heard accounts, although not really substantiated, of some media companies favoring certain personalities. It's a good thing that we now have other fora to expose these anomalies. And one powerful tool is the internet.

That's clearly the power of influence by a particular officials that even media would be more careful enough for them to make safe not only their media personnel the the station or network as well. Anomalies can be extremely exposed by the public but it will done proper evaluation by the network officials including media regulatory board if that will be appropriated to published and it must be detailed information, substantial basis and concrete evidence prior of its publication. The media likewise can be regulated by the involved personalities if his influenced is very strong...

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i think corruption has become a common buzzword in every country and it is largely becoming impossible to trace its roots as almost all the sectors are now facing the threat of existence of corruption. I think uprooting corruption has to be a collective effort and if one raises his or her voice then we have to support them without thinking about anything else. Otherwise such cases would be common in the future. What say?
