This is how I Quit Smoking

I used to smoke 2 to 3 packets of Ciggarrettes a day. I tried to quit smoking many times but was not successful. About 3 years ago I quit smoking completely. I did not smoke a single ciggarrette from then. I want to share my technique with you all, though this is a famous technique. First, I prepared myself to quit smoking and enhanced the desire to quit it. Then I planned to quit it in a span of two to three months time rather than quitting at once. The first step I took was to smoke costlier ciggarrettes, the price of which will be almost double and will be hard for me to spend. That brought my 25-30 cigs to 8 - 10 cigs. But yet, when I was under pressure, I used to smoke more than 10 cigs. After a few days, I decided to limit the number of ciggarrettes to smoke and I made it only 5, which I decided to smoke after my breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, before going to bed. After a few days, I reduced the no. to only 3. Whenever I smoke, I have to smoke only 3 ciggarrettes. So I started refraining myself to smoke in the morning hours and till lunch. From then, I used to smoke only 3 cigs. I was gaining confidence that I can quite smoking. After a fews days I made it 2 ciggarrettes per day. This has enhanced my restriction and I used to smoke only in the evening after the office and before going to bed. After 3 or 4 days I made it only one ciggarrette per day. I used to smoke this only ciggarrette before going to bed and all day I used to control myself to smoke with the fear that if I smoke that only cig early in the day, I may have desire for another cig during the remaining day. After another 3 - 4 days, I knew very well that I can stay without smoking and I completely stopped smoking. From that day till today I did not smoke a single ciggarrette. I am really happy that I could overcome my biggest weakness.. Have you tried to quit smoking? What is your technique to quit smoking?

Wow you have good willpower. When I have up smoking I used tablets called chamois which turn the craving part of your brain off. I have up within a week and a half but my incentive was I'd just lost my mum to a heart attack. My mum passed away April last year, I carried on smoking until June last year and have been smoke free almost 18 months. It's a great feeling isn't it. I've got so much respect for you the way you done it. My husband have up with willpower alone, I don't think IM that strong mentally. Congratulations, how long have you been smoke free now?

Kudos to you for that! It takes a great willpower to do that! I'm not smooking, so I can't say whether it would work for me or not, but I like that you didn't use artificial products like nicotine patches, and you really wanted to quit, so you forced yourself to do this. Your methods seems really gradual and good working.

I experienced a great feeling when I finally quit smoking. It's really hard at first but when you really want to stop it, u can in any way. Looking back at those days when I was still a smoker, I say one of the many factors is peer influence. I remember that my friends before were smokers, and so do I. I am just grateful that through the years I had new friends that are not smokers and being with them helped me quit smoking. So this is my advise, If you want to overcome your smoking addiction, choose your friends.

Wow that is great. You have discipline yourself in regards to smoking. I don't smoke but I'm curious of what you have done. Many smokers said they can't quit smoking. They have tried but they really can't quit. Smoking is really a danger in ones health. You just made a right decision. Congratulations! God Bless and have a nice day!

For lack of any fancy descriptions, I just quit, from a pack-a-day. Mid-pack. Gave the then-stale pack to a friend - I was done with them.
