It happened in Cebu, Philippines. It was quite shocking, it happened near our place, the Shrine...it was quite sad, how even the holy places are robbed.. people are really desperate for money now. I don't even know what they might do next..
I hope they'd be caught and punished by God and by the government..

Oh my... people are getting desperate by the minute... imagine stealing from Mama Mary... someone as innocent as her... i hope this person would realize the gravity of what he/she did...
But then again... there are those people who do crime because they believe they can easily get away from the law... not thinking that a higher law is there to judge them in the future... with consequences much much harder... i hope whatever was stolen will be returned... and soon...

Yes, they don't have respect for anything anymore.
I do hoe they get caught soon, but i think they would have a hard time since there are no CCTV cameras in the parish..

Yes, we've heard some incidents like this in other churches but I haven't imagine that our Church will be a victim too. I guess there's no more safe place today, from people who have ill deeds in their minds. The best we could do is to be vigilant always and I just hope those jewelries be returned soon.

Hi Stanley, it's really sad coz it happened in our parish too over a month ago here in Quezon City where donation boxes were stolen and some other valuable things inside the church. No place is safe from robbers anymore, be it a holy place in a small community like ours. :(

Yes, robbers just steal anything these days as long as it is valuable..
Have they conscience at all, even just a little? Since those donations are for the poor an the Church who need it more than they .

These thieves have no conscience at all. It is sad to say that the Philippines is the third country practicing Christianity yet it's citizens are doing crimes like this. It's so frustrating.

YEs, they are thieves, they will steal from anyone and anything..
Yeah, we do have a lot of Christians here, but not many are really good people, some say they are forced to do crimes because of poverty.. these are hard times..

Unfortunately, anywhere you go anymore it seems like people are not safe, and people are robbing others. Around here I hear about it happening more and more as well, and even to people that are in the Service industry like cab drivers, etc. It truly is a Sad time we live in.

Yeah, I guess the best we could do, is to be vigilant always. The theft happened a week after the feast day of Our Lady of the Rule. The caretakers only knew the next day when they are cleaning the church. The news also said that, it had a CCTV installed but the sad thing is, it isn't working.

That's really sad to hear. And I think this isn't the only incident that religious items were stolen. There were cases of this in other provinces. And to think we're predominantly Catholic. I guess a lot of people are succumbing to temptation due to their weak faith. Don't worry, they'll eventually pay their dues, either through our legal system or God's judicial system.

Yes, your right, some people's faith are too weak to resist temptation.Laziness, poverty and man's love for material things could be a factor too. Let's just hope the people who did this changes their minds and returns the jewelries they have taken.

Thieves won't consider if it's holy or not. If it's worth stealing, they're gonna steal it. They should draw the line. There was also a bunch of rosaries here made up of rubies. These were supposed to be sold abroad but most of it were stolen. I'm certain that these people will get hit by karma because that's how it works. If you do good things, you'll also recieve good things. If you do bad things, bad things will also return to you.

Yes, I do believe it too, that you will reap what you have sow. I just hope those people who did this as what the news have said, was not done by one man. Police are still investigating how did it happened. I don't know if they would find clues, they said it had CCTV but it was broken long time ago. Finger prints dusting I guess will be of no help, because it happened at dawn as have reports said. Previous to that incident, there are many devotees lining up touching the glass case of the shrine so I think it will be difficult for the police for finger prints matching.

Yes, end justify the means... At whatever circumstances it happened, 'they might have thought why the God need the money, as long as we are hungry'. I am not justifying what they did, but the sad part is that the shrines and temples, church and such religous organisations are holding millions and millions of dollars and not even paying the taxes to the govt. They are still accumulating and do you think the shrine or the temple made out of gold has more values. I think it is time to correct ourselves and it is impossible unless and until there is a change in our thoughts...

I value your opinion my friend and you are right in saying that the hungry needs them more instead of adorning them to shrines. But what I condemn is the act, it's against the law of man and God's.
It's also stated in our laws that religious organisations especially the Church is exempted from government taxes so we can not do something about that.

I was just wondering who could have stolen it? Do a lot of people know it wears genuine jewelry and who has access to the donations? The items were very valuable so security must have been very strict yet the items were stolen and seems easily done.

Yes, those are genuine jewelries said to be donated by devotees of Mama Mary. Most of them came from people who now resides in different foreign countries, became successful in their chosen careers and constantly received many graces through their devotion to Mama Mary.
