They gave me an empty coffee mug???

Today was my last day working in my bank. Tomorrow I start at a new location.. same company, just a different location. So my co-workers had a little party for me. They ordered lunch and brought in goodies. My boss, who was on vacation this week, came in and gave me flowers and a card.. and an empty coffee mug. I was excited when I saw it, until I realized it was empty, LOL. See, I love coffee, and they all know it. Right down the road is a coffee shop with amazing coffee! We usually went there a couple times a week for coffee for everyone. The place is called The Riverbend, and they make a specialty coffee, named after their shop, the includes amaretto and kahlua flavor.. and they know that's my favorite. So I asked them how they could tease me with an empty mug? LOL Then they told me to read the card.. it was funny. On the front it said "You're leaving us? Good.." but then inside it said "-bye, good luck.. and everything else good". And with it came a gift card to the coffee shop :) It was nice of them, and far more than I expected. I figured they'd do lunch, we do that a lot.. but the gifts and flowers exceeded my expectations! I hope my new co-workers are as nice and caring.. I will really miss the old bunch! Have you ever had a goodbye party at work?

LOL.. I might get that chance too.. I'm not completely done with my bank yet. They have invited me to their Christmas party on the 18th, and then I will be back the week of Christmas because of a vacation.. but after that I'm officially done.. unless they decide to move me back eventually.. which they might because I don't see how my bank will cope with fewer people!

Who knows. They'll probably find some way to manage, cut something...

That was so nice...says they think highly of you. I did have a going away party once when I quit a job. We all went out for a nice supper...started having some drinks and the whole rest of my shift called the boss and quit!!!! Yup..they all decided to leave the job that night. I never talked to the boss after that. He was not a great person to work for but I bet he was surprised when he found out he had no day shift!

I moved departments back in July of this year and when I left, the team gave me a lovely purse (matching the brand and colour to my handbag!) and put some money inside of it too - we then had leaving drinks etc and it was awesome - such a good night out! :) I am glad you had a nice present and farewell and I hope they are all as nice in your new role and department too!

Hi kats! Wow! That's really nice that you worked with people who actually cared and were nice. I never had anyone really give me a party, at least not a good-bye one. I usually either got fired, quit or something to that affect. I didn't know you were changing to a new location. Good luck. I'm sure you will fit in great and the people will like you there too. Just be yourself and you can't miss! Les

I just found out about it a few weeks ago. A position was cut in my bank so they just don't have the hours for me.. so they decided to send me elsewhere. It works out though because my new bank is a little closer, and a lot busier.

Awe..what a sweet story. Your co-workers must really like you to think of you in such a way and to even give you a going away party. Sweet. No, I have never had a party given to me in my honor. What a great gift too, a special coffee mug with a gift card attached. Awesome

That is a really cool thing to do, and the gift card for the coffee shop is a nice alternative for mug-filling! :) Very nice. I love the card too. Really makes a person think, and then when you open it, you see what they really mean. I love cards like that. As for me, I volunteered in a few places, where they did similar things. I love getting mugs from the places where I've worked, or volunteered. Awesome!

It was very nice of your co-workers at the location you are leaving to have a little goodbye lunch for you on your last day. Even nicer that they gave you a gift card to the coffee place you like. I know how much you love your coffee. I have never had a going away party given for me at work before, but we did get a cake for one of my bosses when she was leaving once.

We always did things like that. We celebrated birthdays, and had a system for it. The last person to have a birthday was to buy the cake and card for the next person with a birthday. Heck, one time we all had to work extra hard because we had 1 girl out on vacation and another out sick for a week, and just because we worked hard that week the boss bought us lunch and we each got a little gift.. I got a small Yankee Candle (best brand of candle in this area, not sure if they're national). Earlier this year we had a girl out on maternity leave and we threw her a big party. I was really hoping my co-workers would have thrown me a graduation party.. but now I'll be at the new bank for my graduation, and they probably won't do anything because they don't know how important it is to me :(

That's fabulous! I like the gift idea, and the message is clever. I'll try and remember that for if I need to write a goodbye and goodluck card myself! Best of luck with the new role.

Thanks! It was funny.. I had to show the card to a few of my customers and laugh "See how much they hate me?" LOL.

You must be such a popular lady to be treated so well. I loved the touch with the coffee mug. Yes, I did receive a wonderful gift when I got married. A beautiful very expensive dinner service that I still adore - well - I adore what is left of it Oh yes, when I left school I received a very tacky gaudy, cheap lamp that did not take long for me to get rid of as I gave it away to a Church jumble sale

LOL.. I probably would have done the same with the lamp.. but hey, it gave you a chance to help the church, that's a great gift!

Nobody has ever left our company by their own choice I think it is a nice thing and creates a welcome atmosphere when co-workers treat each other well and have goodbye parties etc as it shows the company is not just about profit but also about a friendly place to work.

Your co-workers must have liked you that much. I could only wish you good luck on your next "destination". And hopefully, you'd make good friends just like the ones from your previous office.

Your so-workers are really sweet. And as for me, i have experienced a despedida or goodbye party. It was our manager who is returning to Canada (as she is from that country) after staying with us and managing the department for 1 year. Sad but knowing that she has lots of people to work on and help there makes us proud and happy as well. And, she left each of us a gift and that made us happier!

Awww, that was really nice. I hope you have the same kind of working relationship with your new co-workers. I have had a number of jobs and have never had a goodbye party. I never really had reason to, now that I think of it. 2 places closed down...so we were all leaving and 1 place I was "let go"...no reason to party unfortunately. Good luck on your new location!

That was nice of them. No I've never had a "good bye party" at work for me. However, we've had food served as a goodbye to a manager who was transferring out to another store. We've held baby showers in the break room. At my previous job you'd bring something in on your birthday as a treat. At another previous job the boss would go to the cookie shop on the upperlevel and buy you a cookie cake if you worked your b-day. Which of course I make sure I take vacation on my b-day, not that I do anything special but it's my birthday KWIM?!?!
