My family lives in a village in northern China. When I was a little girl, the family cultivated wheat, barley, cotton, tobacco, corn, and vegetable in plantation. The vegetable includes eggplant, pumpkin, tomato, potato, capsicum, and so on.At that time,no chemical fertilizer, only manure could be used to improve the crop's growth. We bred livestock, such as mule, sheep, goat, rabbit, and pig.We also bred poultry, such as chicken,no duck and goose. The farm need irrigation if the rain is short. After harvest by hand, the grain was stored in barn and granary. After baking, the tobacco was sent to the special factory. The cotton was picked up,then we removed seeds of cotton by machine and stored it.When I was 15 years old,my family start to plant apple tree, and pepper tree in orchard, and stopped cultivating tobacco. We also stopped breeding livestock and poultry. The planting and harvest of wheat and corn are no longer by hand, but by machine, and mature is replaced with chemical fertilizer, which are owing to the technology development. The young people in the village leave their home to search for jobs in the city, but old people and kids are left in the village. This is my family and the surrounding village's farming history.

I wish my dad would have stayed on a farm, when I asked him why he didn't buy a farm he told me he did enough when he was a kid. So my mom told me if I wanted to be on a farm it was up to me now, we lived in the country surounded by dairy farms and I loved it and I still do,me and my husband lived for 9 years by dairy farmers with our kids, we are temporairly in town since 2 years now and we hate every minute of it,so the minute we have a chance ,I mean as soon as their is an opening we are gone.

Hi crystal!
Welcome to myLot!
I am glad that you shared you story with us. Sometimes I am dreaming of living in the farm, where there is no pollution and you can breath fresh air. No stress, no worries. I remember my grandparents who were living in the farm and during my childhood I would visit them from time to time. But everything has changed already. I become so busy including the children. It seems as if we don't have free time anymore. We are always working. Reading your post make me miss the old days.
Have a nice day.
