I have come a long way. Have you?

Someone responded to a topic I had posted 3 years back and what do I see there? I have not commented on a single response there. Looking at myself now, I cannot imagine I could have been so irresponsible. I have come a long way now and participate the way myLot expects us to. Every single response I receive, gets all the attention that it deserves

Hi,(hugs) What i understand is that Mylot is all about discussing topics. And when i start any topic and if i keep that discussion unattended, then, i am actually not getting benefited from my own discussion. With this new account, i observed some are still using partial method of responding, that is reply only to whom they are comfortable or ignore purposely or actually don't have time. I feel okay, may be my reply is not worth of responding back, ha ha. Okay, I did my job and now will go back to some more interesting discussions.

Are you that baby face? Missed you. Glad to see you back! It is rarely that I find nothing to say to responses received and if at all I did that in the good old days it was only because I was not aware how this site works!

Down below is one of my discussions from six years back. I've saved a few just for old times sake. As you can see, I was a yakker then and I'm still a yakker, lol! I remember going through the site and seeing what people were doing, so I just went along and did the same thing. I came here from another site where I would ask questions now and then so I was kind of used to it. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1278303.aspx You might have to copy and paste this, not sure yet...hope it works for you.

Thanks. The other site I was on is called WAHM, and it stands for Work At Home Moms. It's just basically a discussion board and I don't even know if they're still around. I would go there for advice and ideas, and that's how I found myLot and have been here ever since.

I really do not know the reason why I did not go through discussions created by others then, and the one you pointed out here could have taught me a thing or two. Never mind! I am a good girl now!

I was on another site and there it was so different from what it is here. You have done a good job in that discussion, commenting on all responses - not bad!

That's why I start every day on myLot at the 'unresolved' list, making sure I've checked all my discussions 4 weeks old or older. But yeah; what with responding to a bunch of your more-popular discussions & others' hot discussions, some of your discussions get lost in the rush.

It is not that. When one is new it takes time to get the hang of the site. I can now say that I have a complete grip on it.

I have not even thought about that today is the first day back onto mylot in about 6 or 7 months now. You posting this topic reminded me that i need to go and look just to see if there are things that i have not responded to. Thank you for posting this.

Considering that I'm still a newbie, I've started some discussions on here that people are still commenting on. It's good that I'm still considered 'o.k.' but I have so came a long way than I ever imagined. (Still totally have a long way to go) But I have. It's just a lot of discussions that people on here have started way cooler discussions than I have. :)

Once you realise that back and forth participation is important you have found your way here. It takes time to get into the hang of doing things here. You seem to have got it. Good going there!

Well, I have been known lately even myself to bring back up some of my older discussions and respond back to them if I can. As long as they still pertain it is important to respond back and many times I even find myself getting new responses back from others here as well.

I am sure if I went back there would be many discussions I did not fully participate in. Sometime when things are slow I shall go see what I can do about that. It is never too late to respond.

That is the beauty of this site GG. One can always go back and complete one's duties! In my case, someone had revived my discussion and it is then I saw that I had not commented on a single response!

Hi ak! When I joined and I was new here I was told by one of the dear friends here that posting comments on the responses and acknowledging the same is not only a matter of courtesy, it makes the interaction lively and interesting. I used to post my comments since beginning. Just now someone posted a response to my six year old discussion and I found that I had posted comments to most of the relevant responses. I also thought it fit to respond to the last respondent, who respondent my post lately. To post comments and counter-comments is a sort of conversation and I always love it. I prefer responding to those friends' discussions who post their comments on my responses, without fail.

I came here on my own and there was no one to guide me. I was groping in the dark. I did not even know there were faqs and guidelines but when some 'all-knowing' users bombarded at me that was the time I woke up and started reading through!

I've learned my lesson that it's my responsibility to comment back to my responders. They spent their time responding to me but I have missed replying them. Lately, I did my best to comment to all responses I've received. I hope they won't get tired responding to my discussions.

Oh, I guess some old members here just leave their responses and when I comment back, they don't answer my comments so the conversation ended there. I guess they are busy doing their own discussions and posting their responses or comments to other mylotters. Mylot is a big world. We sometimes can't divide our little time in posting our discussions, responses, comments, photos, etc. I guess we should just do our best to respond to each other. Happy mylotting. Thanks for commenting back.

It is only those who do not know the true value of this site would find it tiring to respond or comment. This is a discussion site and a topic is placed before the community in the hope that users will spend time discussing it. . As a newbie there is bound to be lack of knowledge but as one gets into the site it is not pardonable that the site is not taken seriously.

I'm glad to hear that you give your responses the attention it needs. I know what you mean. At first I didn't really understand a lot about mylot when I first started here. When I learned more then I went back and responded to all the responses that I had missed. I came pretty close to getting them all. I might have missed a few but I was happy that I went back.

When I was new on mylot, I did not know that I was expected to comment on my responses. I thought that it was ok to begin a discussion and just read the responses to my discussion. I loved it when other people joined in. I thought that that was all it took but a veteran mylotter let me know that I was not displaying good mylot etiquette. She also let me know that I was not getting paid for my discussions. My earnings were very low and I was thinking of calling it quite. Since then, I comment on all my responses. It's more fun plus my earning have greatly increased.

I am no longer a newbie and have learned a lot from veteran mylotters. Now, I assist or help other newbies. Hi Hatley, I work p.t. and have some very busy days. Some days, I can post only a very few responses on mylot while other days, I have more time and do more posting. I always try to post a minimum of three no matter how busy I am but when I have more time, I almost always post 10 or so every day. I am not a prolific mylotter but I sure like the site. You have over 55 thousand posts!

for me it doesn't mean you're irresponsible. maybe you were a newbie then and you're not aware yet about the way to earn, participate and gain friends at the same time. it's also possible you got busy during that period. or it was a discussion made when you were emotional and didn't want to go back to. whatever the reason, you're free to revive them or not. some don't like going back to old topics. do what feels right for you.

When I consider the Moss, this rolling stone has gathered..WOW! One needs to know, that the first...very first time that I put fingers to keys on a computer (rather than pen to paper) was NEARLY 6 years ago! The unabashed neophtye to the cyber world..and shortly after joined "myLot"..stumbled, tripped, got up and got back in the race! YES, a huge learning curve..and still in infancy..so much yet to learn! One must remember we are teaching an old dog, new tricks. My original stumbling block, was timidity (hard to believe, eh?) so fearful a "big, bad mouth would come out of the screen and tell me off!" I.m getting there...tada!

"says a lot about your competency"....OR my inability to recognize the waters were deep and muddy..and I am just stubborn enough to stumble on! And times of reflection make me glad for my temerity..as I am so enthralled with the world that has opened up to me..thankful for friends like you!

"big, bad mouth would come out of the screen and tell me off! All that has stopped now thankfully. I too went through that harrowing experience. I also lost a star only because of these all knowing nincompoops! But I have put behind all that and am truly enjoying my interaction taking care not to get trapped in their nets! Considering that you joined here even before you knew your 'qwert' says a lot about your competency!

It is always good to get a chance to go back our old topic and revise our old activities. On every single day we are learning new lessons and avoid the mistakes if we done anything in past. I too was not aware the importance of commenting back in the beginning. I learnt within a week about my responsibility as a starter of the discussion. I think you have an opportunity earn more if you can comment back to those topics now. There is no time frame for commenting back.

I used to be like that too when I first started out because I didn't know how the site worked and I was new. I did respond to some though but not all like I should have. Now I respond to just about everyone that replies to any of my post that I do post on here. I have been on here for 5 years now and I love it. I have grown so much in the past 5 years, I will never leave this site ever.

I try to keep up with all of the discussions and the responses that I have started and got, but it is not always that easy, as there are times where I have other things like family that have to be sorted out and that is a must sort. I still hacve people that comment on my discussions that I started when I first come on here, so I tend to try to go back and answer those if and when I can, but at the same time I try to answer friends discussions on here as well.
