Does Your Computer Give Enough Light to Be Used as Treatment for Depression?

I've read that simulated sunlight is often used as therapy to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). But the computer is much more fun! Doesn't the computer simulate enough sunlight to take care of that?

No, it does not. :/ A computer lacks most of the light the sun does. For me, the computer makes all depression worse because I use it to avoid doing what needs done, which makes me feel useless, which makes me avoid doing it, and on and on.

Luckily, myLot offers a solution to that problem; because--even though it might not be apparent by the AMOUNT WE PAY YOU (about $10 a month if you're lucky)--your myLot-friends NEED your answer to their 'burning questions'

Meh. E-freinds do not replace a lack of real freinds or clean my kitchen for me. :P

From what i understand is there is vitamin D in sunlight which is NOT in the light from your computer and that is part of what makes sunlight good for treating depression

Is there any way to get vitamin D INTO your computer-light?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a subtype of major depressive disorder, is symptomatic depending on the number of daylight hours in a day. This means that the lower number of daylight hours in a day, the more prevalent the symptoms. Although light therapy (through a lightbox, a specific device) has been proposed as treatment for SAD, not much is known about its effectiveness on a longer scale. What is known, however, is that since the number of daylight hours correlate with the symptoms it may just be that: (1) SAD could be treated by artificially increasing the number of daylight hours a person is experiencing; and (2) using artificial light that is akin to sunlight. The light from a computer, however, wouldn't be much help because it doesn't really fit the criteria stated above.

Wouldn't it be great if it did! So I did some checking to find out --- and no, sadly to say, it sounds like in order for a light source to be effective for SAD, it needs to be at least 2500lux (or about 10 times brighter than a standard light bulb).

How bright are computers? And is there any way to make them brighter? But wait a minute; wouldn't 'staring at bright light' all day make you go blind faster?
