there's frozen water (aka ice) on Mercury! ... and organic matter as well !!

at least that's what NASA reported two days ago: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/messenger/media/PressConf20121129.html so in the permanent shadow inside the craters of Mercury's polar region it is cold enough to form water ice. And somehow, probably through comets or asteroids the water and organic compounds ended up there. Isn't that fascinating? On a planet that's supposed to be far too hot on its surface to even store water in its liquid form they've found ice. Nice. do you think there's a chance any other planet than Earth or a moon in this solar system could bear (primitive) life? ET on our door steps so to speak?

Very interesting... there are so many things in our universe that never cease to amaze us... and this new NASA finding is not an exemption... books would always say that the existence of water in Mercury is impossible... but now... that needs to be changed... i wonder if there will ever be a time when space travel would be possible... i hope that happens in our lifetime... it would be so exciting to go to another planet...

I agree. We live and learn and we hopefully develop - better sooner than later - into a species that comprehends but als respects nature and at the same time will make it to the stars. Thx for your comment
