Do you try new recipes?

A few members here responded to my discussions of how to use chicken skin. I didnt want to waste it, if I could use it. I am willing to try a new recipe once, and if I like it bonus, if not at least I tried it. They recommended deep fried chicken skin, this is something I have never heard of, so I looked up a recipe. It said you could either deep fry it in oil in a pot (I tried that but found it wasnt crispy enough and very greasy), so I laid them on a baking sheet, and in the oven now. My Mother walks up opens the oven, makes faces and goes what is that crap, your so disgusting. Now I know they have never tried it before, and probably wont. They are very negative, and hostile at trying new things or if someone else tries something new they carry on about how disgusting it is.

Yes I do. Already as I was 8 years old I was collecting recipes. From my aunt, the neighbours but I was also cutting them out of magazines. I still have them after all these years. My kids do exactly the same. If I eat abroad I write down what I like, try to make it as well and change it also if I think I can improve it. If you want a crispy skin (chicken) you should grill it. Ignore your mother, the rest. If they do not like to taste it there is more for you!

I have never heard of using the Chicken skin for cooking but I love to try new things all but l.o.l. I probably would have tried the same thing! I like Chicken Fried Steak so maybe it tasted like something in that area? Who knows it could have been yummy?!!

To me it sort of reminds me of bacon, or something similar. I added salt, pepper, and bbq seasoning as the recipe online said to season them that way. I thought it was pretty good, and will be using it at functions as appetizers.

I love trying out new recipes with the family and spend many good hours looking at recipes sites on line seeing what new things I can cook for the family. Like you I also don't like wasting any food unless I have to so like you I like ot try and make things up as well as I go along.

Though I don't try new recipes all the time, I don't have anything at all against trying new recipes. There are some times that I will try a new recipe and it will turn out to be something that our family really does enjoy. There are other times, however, that the recipes that I will try turn out to be something that we don't like and I won't try those recipes again. However, I've never been and will never be negative about the new recipes that people in our family try.

I agree, I think in all occassions you may or may not like it. I try to make recipes with ingredients I enjoy (so I am more likely to try it). But if I am out, or at someone`s house I am willing to try something I have never tried before.

If you dredge it in egg and flour and then deep fry it, it will get crispy. Your oil must be hot enough that it boils quickly. If it just sits and soaks up oil it will be limp. I like crispy coating on the skin.

I put it in the oven, and it was cirpsy in no time. I was thinking about the batter on the outside. Next time I will try that, but it wasnt bad though, I put a little too much salt on it, as I seasoned it before as well (when I cooked it).

I like to try new recipe if it sounds easy and take very less time to prepare. When ever i see any recipe the first thing i see is the ingredients which should not be many and also the time . I cant really cook for hours. Chicken skin, i eat skinless chicken so cant really suggest.

Why are you in a hurry? I love trying new recipes and use the crockpot for everything so it can still cook while I'm at work.

Fried chicken skin kind of sounds yummy, but what I do is save it up in the freezer until I'm ready to make a pot of chicken stock. I also save chicken bones. When the time comes to make the chicken stock I'll simmer everything I've saved in the freezer along with some veggies and the cut up pieces of a whole chicken, then let it simmer for quite a while. Afterwards, I strain the liquid off and then put it in the fridge until the fat rises and congeals. I will scrape that off and set it aside. It's real good for frying, but if anyone is the least bit concerned over any possible health risks, then I'd say just toss it. Maybe the dog would like it. :p I have super-duper blood levels and my blood pressure is 109/70, so I will use a bit of the fat to enhance the flavor of some cooking oil when I'm sauteing or frying chicken or potatoes. Good stuff. Maybe fried chicken skins could be crumbled a little and used as a garnish for a salad or something, like bacon bits.

Actually I rarely cook, but really like watching a cooking show. Even if I have free time I usually use to try new recipes, but more to snack instead of rice or the like. usually I like to try the easy one. Well, I said don't really mind your mom, that is your right to try new recipe even if she didn't like it. You can just cook it and who knows maybe some of them are going to be loved by your mom too (if she wants to try it)

I have an idea but its kind of radical lol. How about frying the chicken skin and using it as some kind of topping for a salad or pizza. The saltiness and crispy texture might work.

Yes I do love to try out new receipes, but when no ones home, as i make a lot of mess while preparing it. Even if mom is there besides, she keeps interfering in my work, which i dont like :P. Some dishes turn out to be very delicious, some turn out to be so bad, that i literally throw them off! :D
