When I opened my Turkey this year I had a big surprise, it was deformed!

Deformed turkey! - a picture of a turkey when opened I found it with a missing wing

I have been making turkey dinners for the past thirty-five years and have never come across what I found. I usually buy a butterball or Jennie-O turkey. Since living in Puerto Rico it is hard to find either one especially at a good price. So this year I got a turkey brand that I never had before. What a surprise I had when I found my turkey without the bag of giblets inside and on top of that a missing wing. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I have never heard of such a thing in my fifty-six years on this earth. I will try to attach a picture of it.

You can laugh because to me it is very funny! I'm still surprised by this and wonder how many people have ever experienced this. A wing missing is a big deal!

Maybe it got into a fight and lost it's wing in transit. Thank you for sharing that, I hope you don't mind but I couldn't stop laughing, picturing this poor bird with a missing limb and giblets. Because of some new law now in our country they are not allowed to sell birds with giblets in. Which is stupid! We used to give our animals the giblets as part of their Christmas dinner.

This is actually really common :) Turkeys are sold like that all the time... they might be missing a wing, a leg, what have you. When you look on the packaging, they should be clearly marked and sold as "utility" turkeys. They are identified this way so you know, ahead of time, that something will be missing. It doesn't affect the taste or quality of the bird -- and they are always cheaper than the "perfect" birds that are not missing any parts My mom swore by utility turkeys because my dad used to insist that she always get the biggest bird that would fit in the oven and, because they were always soooo expensive, she would choose a utility turkey, give up one wing or leg or something, and still have lots and lots of meat for leftovers, which my dad loved

Never heard of utility turkeys before. I have another one in the freezer and have to check it out to see if that is stated on the packaging. Good to know for next time.

Being vegetarian, it's been a long time since I bought a turkey. It's too bad you couldn't get your usual name brand and had such an unexpected result. Best wishes! :-)

Hello lenin. I'll bet you bought a generic turkey. I have bought a generic turkey that was missing a wing. They may have been raised by the same company's or farmers that raise the butterballs or Jennie-o but for some reason when they were being processed the wing was damaged so it was removed. As for the missing the giblets they may have been over looked when the turkey was proccessed.

I am assuming that the turkey was not born without wings they probably cut them off before selling them for some reason. I have never cooked a turkey so I really have no idea if there is supposed to be a bag of giblets inside or not lol. What do people do with them usually eat them or throw it away? If you usually throw the wings and giblets out then I guess they saved you from doing it. Hopefully they charge less then you usually pay with all that inside. If you pay by the pound it probably was only slightly cheaper. I have no idea what the brand of turkeys I get are. I get one from the food bank each year for our thanksgiving dinner.

In my country the giblets in a turkey or chicken are now sold seperately - not included at all. I was so surpised and use these parts to make the gravy. Sorry about the missing wing though. What could have happened to it? Perhaps it just flew odff in a bid to escape being cooked

Good one! I just don't understand the wing thing. I have another turkey in the freezer and I wonder what I will find wrong with this one. Especially since its the same brand.
