My pc is about 4 years old and although it's not giving me problems except slow loading on mylot I haven't had any problems with it. I used to have a computer that I would always get the 'blue screen' and have to reboot...a lot. When I got my pc it was something new...everything is in the monitor and theres no need for that "big box" (i forget what it's called) that everything plugs into. On this one all you do is plug everything into the back of it making it very convenient. So, how old is too old for a computer? How old is your computer and do you have problems in it? Do you get the 'blue screen' often?

There is no specific age that would be considered too old for a computer, it depends solely on the state of the computer. As long as it is maintained then a computer should last indefinitely, but there is always a chance of hardware issues developing at any time. The only problem that exist if the computer continued to perform well would be the increase of hard drive space, processor power and RAM would become outdated and you would be unable to use some of the newer programs or operating systems. If you are content using the same programs and software then age should not make any difference.

As long as you are happy with it then it is a good computer. People rush out to buy the latest computer and constantly want bigger and faster, which is rather a waste of money at times. Providing that no problems occur from wear and tear, your computer will still do the same job that it did when new, which is all that matters.

I don't know why people are telling you how to get rid of the blue screen...you already did so I'm guessing they didn't read the whole discussion? My computer, now don't laugh, is about 12 years old and I still have dial-up. I just can't afford a new computer and I'm too leary of putting high speed on this one as I think it would cough and break down. The computer itself has really been good to me, and as you can see, I'm here, but I am knocking on wood all over the place, haha!! I'll be happy when I can get a new one but I have other priorities right now. I've never had any problems with this one other than a virus here and there, which I took care of myself, and a few minor problems. Never had blue screen but I can imagine it's just a big blue screen, right? I still sell on Ebay with this and shop online, etc. I don't play games because I can't, nor can I see video's because it takes way too long to download, so that part I'm missing. Someday I will, soon I hope.

I am not laughing. Not too long ago I was using a computer I got in 2002 and I was also on dial-up. But it was showing its age. When I got it, it was a state-of-the-art PC, but in the last years it just didn't have the RAM (I added more until I maxxed it out) or the processor speed to keep up efficiently with the ever-evolving web. When high-speed finally became available in my neighborhood, I jumped at the chance. Talk about "coughing and breaking down", when the tech tried to run the software on my oldie, it froze up. With a high speed modem though, it was a different world -- videos, downloads -- in SECONDS!. And no more timing out while trying to post on myLot. But it was evident, my old computer was struggling. I kept it clean when I had it, regularly running virus and malware scans, defragging, but it came to a point where my hard drive was just about full. It was finally time to bid an old friend adieu.

although if it was new we still have to test the computer hardware and software. When I buy a new computer, I found many problems with the device. It show me blue screen when I am using multiple application, after I running a test my RAM (found error on some block address) and I replace it with new one then my computer never give blue screen again. I have computer since 1998 (286DX), and at some year buying 486DX and Pentium. We never know how long the computer can stay on like human being.

Technology is advancing at such a high pace that even a computer that is a year ago can be obsolete now. Obsolete but not useless. So if you judge a computer's age by how obsolete or outdated it is then six months can seem like you have an old computer but if you judge a computer's age by its usefulness, I think as long as the computer is usable then it's never old. My computer is already over 5 years old but it's still working perfectly well. I just need to make sure that it doesn't catch any virus by constantly scanning it for malware, adware and spyware. If maintained well, a computer can last a long time.

I think your problem is not an old computer but a virus.i would suggest you to format your computer so it will not annoy you next time.my computer completed its 3 years and still running fine but i wish to upgrade it with a better processor and more ram.

You should probably upgrade to a new computer or at-least get another hard drive and re-install your os and get a better hard drive.

The blue screen is in an indication of an intermittent hardware failure, may be needs replacement. It happened to me with my memory card, i changed it, and my CPU is back to normal again. My compute is about six years old and works well for most of my day-to-day home-based work.

The BSOD is not necessarily an indication of how old the computer is or in spite of what several people think, the result of a virus. Au contraire, the blue screen indicates a critical error or stop error which causes your computer to stop responding to prevent damage to its hardware or data. It is usually caused by software or driver error. Knocking on wood, I have never experienced the BSOD on any of the computers I've had. If your computer still performs efficiently for what you use/need it for, than it is not too old. A computer is too old when it does not have the memory or processor speed to keep up with updates and some of the newer programs. Eventually, the old OS's and programs 'go away' as in they are no longer updated or supported by Microsoft. BTW, the 'big box' is the tower. I still use a tower and my current computer is a little over a year old. My prior computer was almost ten years old and it was bogging down. The hard drive was almost full and it was obviously struggling. That computer had become too old.

My PC is about 6 years old. It was working fine, except that it took forever to start up in the beginning. One day, I was cleaning underneath the desk and I had to move some cables around to get rid of all the dirts and dust. After that, for some reasons the internet connection from that PC just won't work. I tried everything, even bought new connection cable to the modem. And there is nothing wrong with the modem because it works fine with all the laptops in the house. So now we only use the PC for doing computer stuff which does not require the internet; needless to say, it is hardly ever used anymore without the internet...

Actually I seldom get "blue screen" with my computer, and when you get it you should go to the repair shop and have a check, because usually there are something goes wrong on your hardware. And regarding to how old is too old for a computer,I think there is no a exactly answer, just for you need.If you find that your current PC is suitable for you and you do not feel any inconvenience and I think it is enough,we no need to just upgrade it time by time because it really is a waste of money. But as for me because I really like to play PC games and if my hardware are not get upgrade then I can not play the newest PC game,so from this point of view, may be two years is a little old for PC.

old computer - This is an old computer where the monitor is attached and cannot be removed, but it does rotate and swivel.
My computer is already 5 years old and still running good. You will never need a new computer if your not into new software or upgrading your operating system because new one requires more space and memories. Have a nice evening. Ciao!
