Hi mylotters, I believe, this is what people call as baby blue. But I don't know if it is true. My friend's sister just delivered a baby. She was happy when she was pregnant but the day after she delivered her baby, she got scared away by her baby. Every time she looks at her baby, it scares her away. She creates impression like her baby is a little monster. So, my friend went to see her sister's daughter to consult about her condition. I didn't ask her yet what her doctor's conclusion about it. Is it the syndrome of baby blue? If a new mother experiences baby blue thing, what can her family do to help her get rid of it? Thank You!

I went through postpartum depression to a certain extent after both of my children were born. For me, it wasn't something that was so terrible that I needed to be put on medication for it, instead, my doctor recommended that I simply get out of the house and do a little something every day. However, in other situations, the depression is so bad that you do need to be medicated for it. The best thing that you can do in this situation is to encourage this friend to visit her GYN and let the GYN know about what she is going through so that she can be treated appropriately.

Thank you Doran for sharing. Btw, is it possible to have light amnesia due to chronic depression?

hi,its normal and happens to mothers.the best way is for the family to take care of the baby until she is ready to embrace the kid.also positive talking from other new mums can help her .she needs to be faced with positive baby talk and not scary talk like sleepless nights, crying babies, sick kids.she should be given time to come around slowly, reminded of the beauty of a baby, the joys the baby will bring in her life.

Yes, you are right. My friend is taking care of her niece now while her mother is incapable of taking care of her own baby. My friend wanted to talk to her about how she feels, but her sister locks herself in her room and do silent treatment to everybody including her husband. If she sees her baby, she would run to her room and lock herself up. Sometimes she even cried out loud. It's kind of worrying my friend and her brother in law. So, she decided to talk to the doctor that treated her sister.

I cannot understand why the mother was scared away by her baby.Is it because her baby is ugly or something else.I know that a new born baby usually is a little ugly ,and then she or he will gradually become pretty.Does the mother have baby blue? Have it been proved by the doctor?Anyway,I hope mother and baby both get on well with each other.

My friend told me that she is going to consult the doctor, but she doesn't tell me the answer yet. I am wondering about baby blue thing for so long, and never got right answer about it.. So when my friend talked to me about her sister's condition, I am thinking that this might be baby blue syndrome. She is afraid to get near her baby not because her baby is ugly. But it is more to the responsibility that she is going to have as a mother. Thank you for your best wishes.. :)
