My check goes up and I lose!

I'm on Social Security and last year we got like a 2% raise and since I live in a Sr. Citizen building that figures your rent by your income my rent went up! Not only that but my tiny amount of food stamps went down and I'm paying more for my prescriptions. So, basically I got no raise. Now their talking about giving us another 2% so I can look forward to my rent going up again and probably will end up getting $10 a month in food stamps! I would rather they didn't even give us the raise so maybe I could get ahead. They say the economy hasn't changed in years but not long ago I paid $1.98 for half a gallon of milk and the same milk is now $2.39! Would you rather have the little raise and deal with higher rent or not get a raise?

NO way, that's a trick sometimes. they will give a raise but the prices go up. Totally ridiculous. I don't like it. That's very disappointing, when you got something but in reality you have not gotten anything. Sometimes, you spend more than you get. GRrrrrr... but what else can we do about it. This is life, so tighten the belts again so that every thing will fit in the budget.

WEll it is better than nothing. I mean if you don't have this you won't be able to pay yours bills or buy something, as the prices for everything still increase....

Oh,its a sad story,I have been living im the south of States and though rent and living is cheaper over there, especially in the country, its also more difficult to find job,you cant catch cab when you need it,etc.I liked in the US and believe that if I lived in NY or Chicago, thing would b different

not have the raise. i find it is the same all over. prices of food goes up but not our pays. i work for a not for profit organization and haven't got a raise there (will be getting more hours come February) and hubby only gets a 25 cent raise at a time. 25 cents doesn't buy much in this day and age.

sorry to hear that.. same things are happening like that here in mexico. By the way a dozen eggs here are 1.50-2.00, and a gallon of milk 3.50.

It doesn't make sense how the government runs this country. Doesn't matter who the president is nor which political party is in power. They really don't understand how difficult it is for people who live on fixed incomes. Hope you can make a little extra online. All the best to you.

My rent has never gone up and my itty bitty amount of food stamps stayed the same even with the raise in SS last year. Maybe this coming year will be different..I won't know until it happens.
So as far as what I would like, is to have the money monthly. In your case, I guess it's different, but if you didn't get that raise and food prices keep going up, you wouldn't have the extra money to pay for it or your prescriptions. You're not really getting ahead but at least it's breaking even I guess.

it is common as they impose certain tax all the time and it keeps changing more than 2.50$ all the time for sure,we need to adjust to the rent and all sorts of deal happening anywhere to survive for sure
