I love to do things in a very skeptical way. I would love to achieve greater heights but because I mediocre, I do a least conscious effort; like school works, papers, and etc. I know that I'm good at certain things but because of this trait of mine, I'm not able to get what is best for me. Ironically, I complain of things that are happening to me when I'm so much aware of the very reason why. I tried to talk to a lot of people that could help me, even our school's guidance counselor. I really don't know why such advises don't get through my head. I guess I'm just pathetic. Anyway, can anyone out there help me out?

Firstly, welcome to Mylot, secondly don't be so hard on yourself, you are NOT pathetic, we can't all be boffins, professionals or top of the class, it's not all about succeeding, winning and being at the top, it's the steps we take to get there, the personal triumphs and achievements along the way. Acknowledge your strengths as well as your weaknesses, but don't put yourself down. It's ok to want to achieve but set yourself smaller goals which ARE achievable otherwise you will be disappointed.

I don't think you should do a lot of effort in order to be great. I don't advise you to be lazy and just let things happen, but to try to grow your curiosity, an intrinsec motivation. It's not about papers at school, but about to master your subject, to have an Idea that torment you if you don't take care about it. I think time will show you what is that idea, and what is your way. And not listen to what others say that you have to do that or that. You should do what motivates you, what appeals to you, what makes you curious. I think that if you are not content about yourself, than you want to improve. Observing the problem is the first step for finding the solution.

I don't think I share that opinion about myself. I am very picky and hard to please when it comes to any sort of task like paper work, talents, etc. It is hard to please me and when I do things I give it my best and don't settle for something which is of poor quality. I despise mediocrity and I know that you will be able to junk this thinking of yours.
