The bit "C"...Cancer. I honestly do not know anyone that hasn't been affected by this dreaded disease. They either have a loved one, family member or friend that has some form of it or they know someone that does. It is terrible.
My father died from cancer about 7 years ago. My mother has a form of it. My sister had ovarian cancer. My brother prostrate.
I have worked on 6 fundraising events in the last year and a half to raise money for children with different forms of cancer. Out of the 6, all have passed away.
It's just a horrible disease...knows no prejudice...it affects any age, race, gender, nationality, religion...it knows no boundaries. It is the modern day plague.

It is worse than the plague because it comes in so many places and can affect us in so many ways. You do what you can, when you can. I give platelets and that is primarily for use in cancer treatment, helping victims stay strong enough to survive the cure.

First let me say thank you and commend you for what you do to help! That is awesome. As I stated before, yes it comes at anyone, anytime, anyplace. It is truly a beast.

Sadly what you say is true,I know from personal experience the pain of losing someone close to you to cancer.I lost my Dad to lung cancer when I was 15.Though i'm hopeful that one day as medical procedures advance one day no one will die or lose a loved one to cancer. We are already making progress my science teacher told me that in 40 years the survival rate grew from 30% to 70% and the survival rate has probably increased even more as it was a couple of years ago.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I know how that feels. My father had prostrate cancer. Yes it is true, the survival rate has more than doubled and I think that is wonderful! The one thing I hate the most, though, is that now cancer is taking children. There are so many of them out there with this dreaded disease. Some never make it to their teen years. That to me is so sad and very tragic.
