The True Meaning of Christmas

Philippines
December 4, 2012 9:22pm CST
Christmas day is approaching. People are already making ready for a celebration. Almost everyone in any group acknowledges it. There's only a confusion. What do Christmas really means? Is it a day for Santa Claus? A day for a pagan tradition? or a day for the Lord Jesus Christ?

The beautiful thing that Christmas brings us is to acknowledge the birth of jesus christ that is why during Christmas people usually attend mass. And also it is the time for family to enjoy each other and be reunited.During Christmas i celebrated it with my family, Though i have also my own family but It is only for sometime to be with them during special occasions.

I never knew about that thing all we know is that Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child.

ahaha yeah!! i will refrain now from saying merry Christmas. Thanks for sharing this important info. But then i guess we can't do anything about celebrating the birth of jesus on this particular month, lets just enjoy the day and feel the spirit of jesus in our hearts.

Yes I know the story of Jesus, but my point is that we're putting Him as the center of a pagan tradition. Studies indicates that Jesus' birth was between September or October but no one really knows. I know no verse where it says that we must celebrate His birth, neither we're forbidden to do this. I believe that celebrating His birth is not wrong, but the fact that Dec. 25 is much connected to a pagan festival of Saturnalia (winter solstice), can we really mix paganism with Christianity? Now that you've known what the word Christmas means, I hope you won't say "Merry Christmas" again. Well, I don't know this also before. God bless!

Christmas 2010 spent with orphans at the Beach - For us Christmas is not complete if we do not spend time with the orphans.
Christmas for me is celebration, creating a happy environment around my house with christmas carols, sweets, decorations and last but not the least spending time with orphans which we do every single year. This year we will go to their home with a few friends of ours and eat with them and party with them. In the last few years we either called them over at our place or took them to places where they would never get a chance to enjoy, like the beach resort. I am sure Jesus appreciates what we are doing!

It is a belief after all. If you have interpreted it your way I have interpreted it my way. Even Jesus attended marriage celebrations. This whole world has been created for mankind. I am happy with what I am doing and if you are happy with your belief so be it.

It is a holy day for Christians around the world, it is supposed to be a day of forgiven and a day for giving by all believers of Christ. A simple day of prayer among Christians is hold in this day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in many churches. For commercial business owners, it is a day of year end sales promotion and an opportunity to make some big profit through their created 'Santa Claus'.

I guess the name "Christians" you specified are the ones who go with the flow of tradition. In the Bible, there is no holy day for Christians or a day of forgiving or giving.

Christmas for some people is a season of giving, loving, and forgiving. This is the essence of Christmas because some believed that it is the birthday of Jesus Christ. The thing is Christmas must be everyday of our lives. We should give, love, and forgive in our daily living. This will please LOrd Jesus more. God Bless

I believe that giving, loving, and forgiving do not pertain to Christmas.

It is a day to celebrate the Birth of Jesus, our Savior. I try to keep Christmas simple and focused on Jesus, so it doesn't get too commercialized and confusing. It is indeed a day of Joy and Peace.

Is that Biblical? To celebrate the birth of Jesus?

I once heard a pastor say that regardless of where it came from, if it gets people into church for a day to hear the truth of Christ and God's love now, we should take it and make the most of it. I thought there was a lot of sense to that.

the reason I don't think its real. Is by reading the encyclopedia's. I was reading about the origins on http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Christmas.aspx. But besides that the Britannica says the same. I just don't have one, but I've read about it at the public library in their Britannica. The bible no where states to celebrate Christ birth. It says to remember his dealth. Just like he told his disciples back in the time he was on earth.

Christmas for me is celebrating Jesus birth, even though he wasn't born on that day. It also has the meaning of family, spending time with them and enjoying the family we all have. I would never want to spend it alone, and those that do, are really missing out, but then there are those that don't have family close where they can spend it together. That day, I forget about myself and focus on my family, and what they mean to me, and of course Jesus too, but then I focus on Him everyday of my life, just not one day a year. take care, and may God richly bless you.

Once I have read a message from an unknown person saying that if the world will come to an end, years after if another creature would go on earth and search for facts, they will discover that humans loved pine trees and has served God named Santa Claus. Kidding aside, they say that Christmas is the birth of Jesus which definitely not based on the bible. It isn't freezing when he was born so definitely it wan't December.

silvercryst340v3 Christmas means different things to different people..there is no one meaning that everyone MUST follow...I and many know about the winter solstice festivals. I also know that the early Church wanted to detract from the Pagan rituals and so declared Christmas the birth of Christ even though scholars have proven His birth was not on 12/25. Doe it matter to anyone?? Not to me..to me it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus and His teachings...and for those who choose not to say He is Divine, they could if they chose, just respect His teachings which are about peace and love ..
