If I went off this medication, would I lose weight?

I'v been taking 40 mg for over a year now, and have gained almost 20 pounds which I'm finding it very difficult to lose. I am also getting older though. Since I turned 35 I'v been putting on weight. I'm not sure if it would be worth it to stop the prozac which is helping me to remain stable and happy, but I'm getting tired of being heavy and always have to buy one size up with my pants.
Are there any meds out there for combatting depression and sleeplessness that will not make me fat? Please advise.

I can realise your situation but my dear friend all antidepresant perticularly SSRI medicine have the tendency to increase the weight by acting on specific serotonergic receprors but don't worry, you can still manage your weight.Proper nutrition and cardiorespiratory exercise will not only help in managing weight but also maintain cardiac fitness.

thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i know u must be very tensed and worried for your weight and u must be longing to loose your weight as soon as possible. I think u should relax first. U are getting tensed for no reasons.
U should never think of artificial ways of losing weight as they are never safe for our health. U should try to go for natural ways like walking, exercising at home, Yoga or hitting a gym that would be best for u.
What say?
