I know that there is already city ordinance that prohibits the use of plastic bags in the entire Quezon City. Yesterday I just saw in their city hall that there are food vendors inside the compound that really does not use plastic bags on items bought by consumers especially the meals. However, I just noticed that meals are already individually packed in a microwavable plastics. I just wonder, are these packagings are being returned to the vendors for re-use or it will just be owned by the consumers. If it will be owned by the consumers, are they throwing this in garbages or they are going to use it in other purposes?
Do these plastic containers exempted in the city ordinance?
What are yoru ideas about this one mylotters?

Hi,
A law is as good as the citizens supporting it. We can't do away with plastics, big companies with big investments manufacture them and they do all they can to get their money back no matter what. If we support the ordinance, by not using or not patronizing products in plastics, then it makes effective way to curb the problem it addresses.

I agree with you. I think it is only a matter of responsibility not only for the vendors but for the consumers too. also, I know that there are many institutions trying to research on how to recycle plastics better but for now, there are others trying their best to recycle plastic products in their community.

I think these ordinances follow one of the simplest rules of law. For every general rule, there is an exception. Truth is that I hate these Anti Plastic ordinances. There will be times wherein you don't know how much you will be going to buy and you only bought one bag which is not enough. Since the Ondoy incident, it was clear that it was garbage that make the worst problem when there is a storm. plastics cover up some holes which should have eased the flooding. And another one is that there is no proper waste disposal in Metro Manila or even in most parts of the country and most people burn up plastics which then would be an environmental hazard.
If we would look at how these reusable paper bags are made and on how plastic bags are made, I guess the use of paper would not be good for the environment at all. I somehow read it in the newspaper that it is not only economical to use plastic bags but with how much resources it takes to clean it up and the water being used to make paper bags. And then we should put in to thinking, what if the paper bag gets wet? What if a person stores it in wrong place and it would start a fire?
If I would look at these ordinances, they were only made to reduce the use of Plastics and not to permanently prohibit them. It was the only measure one could think of in which there would be no problem as regards flood and strong rains since our government could not pay for a better waste disposal program. Instead of them paying for such program, they would have us use paperbags or reusable bags so the problem which plastics pose would also be reduced. In the near future, I would love to see a better waste disposal problem so that plastics can be used again. Because when I see my old man talking about that issue, he would say that plastics where enforced in his time because trees are being cut for paper bags and other stuff.

I agree with you that every rule there is an exemption. I just hope that consumers must be responsible in proper disposition of the packaging whether they are goign to throw it in grabage or recycle it for further use.

I guess that it can be an exception to the ordinance but consumers must be also responsible in proper disposal or recycling of the packaging.

I heard this new ordinance on TV. In Baguio City they have the same ordinance but fishes, meats and vegetables are exempted. here in our city we also have an ordinance just like the two. market vendors doesn't allow to use plastic bags to pack their goods. they don't have exemptions. vendors and consumers will allow only to used papers and baskets when buying. as for the food in Quezon City, I think the packaging's are consumers right after they have bought it. returning the packs are not good. maybe consumers of this food shall recycle this item since this packs are reusable.

I just hope that the consumers will properly dispose or recycle the food containers.
