Extended mall hours for the holidays

Yesterday I found out from one of my managers that the for 2 weeks the mall will have extended holiday hours. Normally, the mall closes at 9:30 but for the holidays the mall will close at 11. I was completely shocked to find that out. I was at the mall working last year and they didn't do the extended hours.
Now this means that when I work a closing shift, I won't be leaving work until around midnight. This is just ridiculous to me and retail is really ruining the holidays. The mall opened at 9pm Thanksgiving night and stayed open for a whole 24 hours.
I don't see why this is necessary. I know they just want to make extra money but seriously, people have to work those hours and I know most of us at the mall won't be happy.
I'm already upset as it is about the holidays because my boyfriend is gone and I won't be able to see him, but now the mall is just making things worse by extending the hours.
Now I'm definitely not looking forward to the holidays this year at all...

All Business mans are required lot of money but they are not thought any employes helth and decissions. in this way all shops and all malls are open 365 days marketing. they are not given any holydays. in the future we are forgot all festivals. but only one way to change this that is we are banned 365 days working.
And alos timeings are not comfortable to any one. change timeings and change working days and hours.

that will make for a long day for you. too bad the focus is so much about stuff and gifts for Christmas and not the real meaning of the holiday.
our mall doesn't have extended hours but i know some of the walmarts are open 24 hours here for Christmas and i don't envy those workers either.

I guess you are just upset now. Maybe you will feel the spirit of Christmas as it goes closer and closer. Just think of the people who'll get happy shopping on those extended hours. Since your boyfriend is not there, I guess that will divert your sadness. Being busy in your job will make the sadness away for a while.I guess some people work on Christmas especially those countries who don't celebrate the holiday.Let's somehow be happy because this day is to commemorate Jesus's birthday. It's His day not ours.

Though you can't have holidays with your boyfriend, you can earn more money for the extended work hours. You work overtime and the manager will give you more money. When holidays come, there will be many people at everywhere. You won't enjoy your holiday with so many people. You can use your holiday to earn more money, and you can relax yourself in the common days. How good it is. So don't complain about it anymore. Holiday is created by the merchants and it is used to earn your money. So if you have the chance to earn money in the holiday, you are lucky.
Otherwise, when you choose the job at the mall ,I think you should prepare for it.It is normal, isn't it?

It seems to me that your extended working hours is mandatory and that you have no choice but to work. But then and again, the choice to be happy is yours to make and not anyone else's. Choosing to be happy at work doesn't mean you agree with the required extended hours but it would surely help you feel the spirit of Christmas. Think that your extended working hours as a gift of sacrifice to the the last minute shoppers. Imagine how many people you will make happy when they receive the gifts that were bought from your mall. There's a lot of ways to look at things and it will turn out ridiculous only depending on how we look at it. I can't blame you for feeling upset as you want to celebrate Christmas as well with your loved ones. It's human nature. But should you not praise God that you have a work instead of not looking forward to the holiday this year at all? There is a saying, if you can't stand the heat then get our of the kitchen. But always remember that a lot of people are looking for work now-a-days and are not lucky enough to having one. Praising and thanking God for your job by serving mall customers should be enough reason for you to look forward to the holiday seasons this year. Looking at it on a positive perspective over and above your feelings of of being upset on your extended working hours will surely convert your negative feelings and thoughts and will make you happy this Christmas and the holiday seasons to come. Advance Marry Christmas to you and may you have a fruitful one.

In such a hectic situation around Christmas, I would suggest that you look to the small and simple things of Christmas that can bring you joy. A beautiful Christmas tree, a cup of Christmas Cheer, giving someone a smile and they smile back. This year, it seems every store is extending their hours. Personally, I don't shop late at night and have never shopped on Black Friday or any day of the Thanksgiving weekend. Plan a relaxing time for when the holidays are over and look forward to that and this hectic season won't be so overwhelming for you.

Just keep on working. You really need money than doing your holidays. You can also enjoy entertain with your customers and greet them a "Merry Christmas". I do not see any problem there. Happy holidays to you.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, hope you will get incentives for the extended hours. It is really hard to work for a long time without rest as well as over time work will give more stress to us. Take proper break in your work to refresh your self

All the rich/owner sees are the money flowing into their pockets since during that time people have money. While they were at their homes eating, partying, the poor regular employees are waiting for the time to go home because their family are waiting for them to celebrate the holidays together..
